The first article doesn't cite any studies that support what the two physicians are claiming, and the second cites a woman who is presenting a study that hasn't been published at a bullshit conference. While the claims might be true, those references are garbage.

Any whey protein deals out there?

I was given two bags of Paleo Protein egg white protein and it's garbage. Tastes terrible and fucks my stomach up something fierce.

Trutein was my last go to, but it's rather pricey.

Used to be supplement warehouse was my go to but they appear to be out of business.

Anyone do or attempt Muay Thai? I'm getting bored w/ the typical gym, looking to give something else a shot. I've boxed in the past, and it was awesome for cardio. There's a highly rated gym near my apartment, but holy shit...expensive. Prices are comparable to crossfit.

LOL, I hear ya. In hindsight, some of these younger guys need to get in as many workouts, and enjoy them, as possible. Recovery is a bitch as you get up in age.

Yes, that does concern me somewhat. I have fucked up wrists due to major surgeries to both. They rarely bother me, but I'm also super cautious. I won't even do dips.

I'm mostly getting into it for the fitness aspect and just to learn something new. I don't really see myself going to full blown combat, just sparring.

Friggin' do it, man. A) You seem like you want to, B) it will probably make you better/more well rounded physically and C) you only live once. If you can afford it, go for it.

Not familiar but I googled it. I'd be wary of OTC testosterone booster-type products (if that's what you were looking at). It sucks to hear but, for the most part, they don't work.

Good to know. What you would recommend for someone like me? Just turned 30. Formerly in good shape and currently not in good shape (I'll spare the excuses). Been going to the gym 4-5 days a week. Cardio and light resistance training. Don't want to be jacked. Just want to drop some lbs and get into better shape.

Diet is key. I repeat, DIET IS KEY. Go low carb, high protein. Lots and lots of veggies.

I have a friend who swears by the "meal prep" services out there now. I'm sure you have tons of them around you also. They are solid, but it's not something revolutionary as some choose to believe.

I do alright with food. The issue is getting around my love affair with high calorie/carb, incredibly hoppy and delicious IPAs.

I know them feels. I've worked very hard at getting drinking down to ~ 2 days a week and less volume when drinking. Weddings/Vacations/holidays/Buddies in from out of town are cheat days tho.

Here's the pricing for the gym I'm looking into. Would be the most I've paid for a monthly gym by far. Not a chance I do a year contract. I'm thinking go for the one freebie. If I like it, get the 10 class pack and go from there. I'm going with a friend w/ zero experience, so I'm assuming we do a few boxing classes first then go into muay thai.

I've ramped up the HIIT this week....holy shit, got a long way to go. I don't want to show up day 1 and be gassed in 20 minutes.

I've been reading a lot about the benefits of high intensity interval training. I did a session on the eliptical today of 20 seconds all out, 40 seconds rest for 10 rounds. When I saw that on paper, I thought it'd be a breeze. On the contrary, it wiped me out. Felt good after though. Anyone have insight HIIT?

At what age and what intensity? Be careful and build up. Don't do it pure 100% for more than 20 seconds unless you want to engage some cortisol. There is a reason there is a 200m sprint and 400m run.

I do something similar to this...


20-Minute HIIT Treadmill Workout


Start with a 5-minute jog at a reasonably steady pace to warm-up and get your muscles ready to go.
At the 5-minute mark, choose your “high-intensity speed” (aim for 10.0) and sprint at that speed for a minute.
Select your rest speed and walk at rest speed for 30 seconds.
Repeat the sprint at the highest intensity you can maintain adding an incline (preferably, 4.0) to mimic normal outdoor running conditions, and follow with 30 seconds of rest and recovery.
During recovery, walk at rest speed to lower your heart rate and prepare for the next high-intensity interval sprint.
Complete 8 to 10 rounds for a total of 20 minutes, including the workout and recovery.
Cool down with a walk at a lower speed for two to three minutes, and stretch it out to avoid cramping.


I don't go to 10.0 for my "high intensity speed. 7-8 max.

Outdoors on the track, I'll sprint a 400 (maybe at 80%), walk a 200. I do this 8-10 times.
