Statement from The Ohio High School Athletic Association on Cardinal Mooney football investigation.

Two eighth-graders from Struthers Middle School were hosted at a dinner by a coach from Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High School about their possible matriculation to Mooney. The school has taken action to accept the resignation of the coach in question. One of the students involved has been accepted to attend Cardinal Mooney High School, while it has been alleged that the other student continues to receive text messages from another coach at Mooney. The Commissioner's Office has ruled that the two students will be ineligible for interscholastic athletics for one year from their date of enrollment should they choose to enroll in and attend Cardinal Mooney as freshmen in 2013-14. Penalties against the school have not been applied, pending completion of this investigation.

They still should be D-1 because Mooney and Ursulin will always get the biggest and best kids from that area . There is no stopping that . They just need reclassified,as do alot of schools.

Id go to Mooney too instead of that garbage school . Mooney is very powerful and they are going to get kids . They are a catholic school and they can recriut under a non athletic guise. They just got caught doing it the way they apparently dont normally do it . I think any decent player at Struthers should transfer. If not to Mooney then Ursulin ,or Harding ,or Poland. Anywhere but Struthers. I dont like Mooney but they have a heck of a program and I have to respect them .

I'd argue that the joke would be the school a student was recruited away from. Doesn't happen at the best schools. Just another arena where the juicebox heroes don't want to compete.

Would you not consider Poland among the best schools in the area? They've lost multiple players to Mooney in recent years. And weren't there eligibility concerns surrounding a Poland to Mooney transfer this past season? Legit concerns, I might add.

Don't forget the facts, now.

LOL... this guy is too much.

Just a hint... kids aren't transferring to Mooney, or Ursuline for that matter, for the Catholic experience.

The "they got caught this time, so they must have done something different" assumption is erroneous.

Mooney cheated. They got caught cheating. They deserve to be punished. How about a postseason ban, or something to that effect?

I'll be flat out schocked, if they get more than a slap on the wrist... or if the case isn't thrown out altogether.

Lastly... what's your problem with Struthers? You can't possibly know enough about Struthers to make a serious argument. Have you ever even been here?

Correction... they didn't get caught. They reported the violations themselves. Just saw it on the news...

MyYTV33 just reported that two coaches are in question. One coach took a student to dinner, and said student has been suspended for a year. No word on the coach's status. The other coach, allegedly has been texting a student. That coach denies this, and has signed a sworn statement denying it.

Other than that, I stand by my previous post.

So Mooney didn't get caught. They turned themselves in. Basically admitting that they do work the system in their favor...

Steubenville people are a rare breed of stupid and we'll leave it at that. The entire YTown area has kids recruited away from them, and in this case Mooney tried to take 2 of Struthers' best upcoming freshmen. Only 1 agreed, and he is a future D1 athlete barring any major injuries..(knock on wood) he's a good kid and we all wish him the best in his endevors. Mooney does this every year or tries to every year with Struthers athletes. Stewart recieved calls from them, didnt accept and ran from over 1500 yards this past season. You don't have to go to Mooney to be successful.

BTrev- From what ive heard, Struthers knew about this dinner because one of the kids told the coaches about it, but they weren't going to tell. Im thinking another school like maybe a poland or a canfield (maybe) told mooney they were gonna tell if mooney didnt fess up.. The guy from the diocese said it best on the news at 11 "We could of covered this up" - doesnt that right there say something to you? They've obviously covered stuff like this before. Damn shame really.

But hey, they're successful and represent Ytown very well every post season by beating the snot out of the river people in stuby, and i dont expect anymore to come of this, even though i believe they should have more severe consequences.

Clearly they're lacking something or the kids wouldn't transfer.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about nor do you know Ytown football, just shut up.
