Yes...rules of recruiting. That's why they outline what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in the rule book.

Publics and privates ARE on the same playing field because the rules apply to all of the schools.

Good try, though!

Wait Mooney recruits? This is groundbreaking! Someone call Tom Meyer the investigator so he can come and uncover what everyone in Ohio already knows

Sherm you are so unbelievably uninformed it's embarrassing. Get your rule book out. There are no specific rules outlining what is allowed and what's not allowed in recruiting! Recruiting for athletic purposes is strictly prohibited! Section 4.9.1 since you know the rule book so well. Just goes to show how accepted recruiting is nowadays that people actually think you can do if you don't do certain things lol. This isn't the NCAA even though you guys are basically a all college. So double check your rules buddy.

I'm uninformed? You should probably check your book. I understand recruiting specifically for athletic reasons is against the rules. I use the term "recruiting" because that's exactly how it is in the rule book.

Section 4.9.2 lists exceptions that allow coaches to contact students from their junior high schools. Section 4.9.3 details mass marketing, as a form of recruiting students, and how it may be permitted based on various requirements (i.e. legal recruiting of students). The section also details the use of the school's website, billboards, etc. and how they can be used to "recruit" students. Then Section 4.9.4 details "recruiting" efforts that are forbidden.

So how exactly am I uninformed again? Can you explain what exactly I need to check?

One kid has said they will go to Mooney. I wonder how good he will be . Sitting out a freshman season isnt that bad for OHSAA punishment isnt that bad anyway.

Must be really sold on mooney considering a bad year last year and what appears to be a losing season this year. I do think losing your 9th grade hurts development.

If I were Struthers fans I wouldn't be worried about how much playing time is being missed by Sep. I would be worried about the the text messages that were turned in last week by his parents to state at their hearing. Lots of bad stuff on there from Struthers coaches banning him from the weight room and facilities while he was still a student at Struthers.

There weren't text messages stating that, I'm good friends with his older brothers, he was simply told to my come to the weight room, because they are trying to build a good solid program at struthers again, And he was told that after he was out of struthers, also meaning they did not want to be responsible for him in the weight room of he were to get hurt.

Dave and Dan both told me they turned over text messages.

I heard this kid is D1? Thoughts? Lost his 8th and 9th grade years? Or is the purpose of the hearing to save his 9th grade year? You lose two big developmental years and im sure his 10th grade year will be with the JV. Not a rosy outlook IMO

Alex will be fine. It isn't about kissing anyone's butt. They planned on sending him there and didn't realize they were breaking any rules. Struthers was unhappy about him leaving and that's understandable as well but if they wanted any chance at keeping him they went about it the wrong way even before the infraction was reported.

They're not helping their cause. Sure some kids probably texted him and said some nasty things, sure. I can guarntee no coach did. And he was asked to stop coming to football workouts if he was not playing on the team. Is that so bad? No. Struthers doesn't need to build Mooney's program, they need to build their own.
Unfortunately this is FAR from over.

Ill defend struthers on this. Big time. You don't want to be there your not going to use our equipment n possibly try to recruit your friends to come with you. I'm sure they didn't know they were breaking any rules. Completely sure lol

I'm not defending Mooney for even a second but I will defend the kids parents. They really didn't know what they were doing was a violation 100%! Here's the rub, you want to say to Mooney "don't mess with one of our students while he's still attending our school" but you turn around and screw the kid over for the rest of the time he's there. You can't use "our weight room facilities", last time I checked his parents were tax payers in Struthers and he should get every right to that facility that every other student gets while he's there. The football coach doesn't own he weight room and a city doesn't own a kid!! It's his parents decision were to send him and no one else's.

They didn't ban anyone. They told him to make his mind up about where he was playing and that if it was Mooney, to practice and lift with them. Young sep took this as a "get the hell out of here" when no one said that at all. And the weight room is not open to students, only student athletes... which sep was not going to be. At Struthers at least.

I doubt his parents knew it was a violation, but one can imagine Mooney shed some light on his parents to make sure they wouldnt be caught.. Mooney was caught, the athlete has to pay for it... which is dumb bc it should be the program. Like i said though, far from over.

That's the final ruling with Alex. He gets to play in the final 3 games of the season. He didn't miss a practice the whole year. At least he gets some game action to go build on. As far as the program goes I haven't heard anything yet.
