Truth. None here will admit it though. And to think Michigan fans were worried about a fried chicken comment by an announcer. Thanks Gordon!

People are going to hate Ohio State regardless of these comments. These were comments said a private dinner with OSU alums in a joking manner. GROW THE FUCK UP.

I understand that. But it was said, it was reported (even if it's by anti-OSU media)...and now it's creating another black eye for the university.

I'm an Illinois fan. I am one of the FEW people who has a neutral opinion of OSU. I'll cheer for them as long as it's not against the Illini. So I have zero stake in anything regarding the school. So I'm just asserting a fair and unbiased opinion of the matter. Go to ESPN and read the comments and backlash from people around the nation.

Oh, and the "fuck them, everyone hates us anyway" attitude is retarded. Take some pride in your alma matta, your state's school, your most highly acclaimed sports programs in the state of Ohio...

It's anything but. My pride in my "alma matta" (sic) or anything I take pride in comes from me, not from the opinions of outsiders. Worrying about that would be "retarded".

You're kidding right? The pride that I have with my university is far above the comments made in jest at a private dinner that the bored media dug up and tried to make a lame hit piece on the greatest university ever created. People would hate Ohio State even if we cured cancer and AIDS, re-united Korea, found a green replacement for oil, and eliminated racism. That's the burden Ohio State places on itself; that even if you change the world in a positive way people will still hate you and that's okay with me.

Do I need to reiterate also that this was said at a private dinner in jest? Do you realize how many private dinners are held at universities across the country that tell jokes that might offend some people?

We'll keep winning, you keep hatin'.

When it makes the front page of ESPN.com, there is more to it than just being "comments made in jest at a private dinner." That's what you're failing to realize. Who cares if that's what it was? It got blown out of proportion and people are judging Gee and OSU because of it. How can you be so ignorant to that fact?

The whole purpose of my original post was to get you to realize that Gee isn't "GOAT," most people outside of Ohio aren't going to find his comments hilarious (regardless of when or how they were spoken) and it creates another black eye on OSU. He's a public figure who is going to scrutinized for anything he says, he's an idiot for saying around people who are going to run to the media.

That's how they were intended, and I did too--but for someone other than a university president to say (especially one that has a history of saying things that aren't taken as they were intended). That being said, one thing Gee's comments did do was bring out the idiots on this thread. Unfuckingbelievable.

Why should people associated with tOSU give a flying fuck about the perceptions of people who aren't?

It made it to the front page of ESPN.com because the media had a slow day and needed hits on their webpage. People getting upset about this are the scum of the Earth who would hate Ohio State regardless of what Gee said or didn't say.

I take pride in the perception of the University of Illinois (albeit the sports programs suck...haha). Maybe I'm just weird.

These are academic institutions, not professional sports programs.

Why would you choose to have pridee be pride in perception or what other people thought of a university? That's a little odd to me.

The substance of a school reflecting my values would be much more important in having pride in than perception. I guess we just see it differently.

My pride in the institutions I care about come from my opinions (hopefully based in fact), not from the opinions of someone not involved with those institutions.

I guess so. I think "pride in perception" is a core value to anything in life. I take pride in the perception of anything I'm affiliated with. Sometimes I fuck up and tarnish that perception, and that bothers me deeply.

So if I'm in the minority...I guess fuck me. :D

Perception isn't reality as is led to be believed.

What others think about certain things is completely irrelevant to me personally.

I don't know if you are in the minority or not. I just know that if you like or don't like something that's important to me...your opinion doesn't mean a hill of beans to me.

Perception isn't reality. Ohio State is one of the strongest universities on the planet; I don't care if everyone hates us. Everyone hated Jesus too, are you against Jesus too?

Ohio State University's top trustees say insensitive comments by the university president have embarrassed and divided the university.
The trustees say in a letter to president Gordon Gee that his comments risk diminishing the collective efforts of the university and of Gee's own good work.
