The 7 and 9 p.m. time slots alone tonight featured as entertaining a collection of games as any one day has all year. It was remarkable. I hated that Duke played during that. Limited what I could catch considerably, although I'm glad I got to see the end of the Cincy game. Sad ending, though, with the Bearcats missing the tying layup at the buzzer.

Excellent start to the weekend.

Boise State's Jeff Elorriaga (one of the nation's most underrated shooters) just calmly drained a 25-footer to draw the Broncos within one of New Mexico with 21 seconds to go in Vegas. NM at the line.

The Mountain West is consistently one of my favorite tournaments to watch each year. The fans travel as well as any conference which makes for a great atmosphere.

Steve Lappas is awful.

New Mexico wins 70 to 67, dashing Boise's tourney hopes. Such a waste for all that talent not to be on display in the Big Dance. Boise had the offensive weapons to make a run. Sort of a poor man's Creighton.

Speaking of great talent underperforming, Dave Rice was also awakened from his NCAA dreams tonight. So that is two NCAA first round exits and an NIT in his first three years on the job at UNLV. With six McDonald's All-Americans in the program at one time or another over that period, including an NBA No. 1 pick, not sure how this guy gets a pass.

I sort of enjoy the banter between that CBS Sports crew, especially Gottlieb and Lappas, but Lappas is definitely not the most polished or professional announcer. It's sort of like listening to guys sitting at a bar making comments about the game on TV.

I actually love the unprofessional format they have going on. I like Gottlieb a lot more than most. Lappas has the same problem as dakich and Vitale. He needs to shut the fuck up once in awhile.

I am also not a Gottlieb fan. Comes off as an arrogant prick.

I agree. Reminds me a little bit of a college basketball Mark May, except not as big of an asshat.

Kansas played 13 tournament teams (if Toledo wins today) this year.

21 out of their 33 games against tourney teams.

Can't say they won't be tested going into the NCAAs.

They were my pick to the F4 as a 1 seed before Embiid went down. Now, Im not so sure they wont get upset in the 2nd RD. Really sucks he is out, the numbers Embiid averages dont tell the story of how much Kansas needs him.

Yeah it sucks. I'm praying to the basketball gods that they allow embiid to come back after the first weekend. Assuming ku survives that first wknd. Lol

To do it any other way would be completely irresponsible. I dont for 1 second believe they have ever done it where they ignored the ACC and B1G title games.

If the following teams win today they are in the Big Dance...

Prairie View A&M - SWAC (12-22, if they win)
Morgan State - MEAC (16-15)
North Dakota - Big Sky (18-15)
Cal Poly (13-19) or CS Northridge (18-17) Big West
Idaho - WAC (17-17)

Already in...
Albany (18-14) America East
Mt.St.Mary's (16-16) NEC

Looks like the 15 and 16 seeds would be set if these all happened.

According to the committee, a win over Florida tomorrow won't factor into UK's seeding. We talked about it earlier this week. That would be THE BEST win you can get in the country, yet it won't count in seeding. Say UK won and went to 25-9, they would probably deserve a 4 or 5 seed if you count that win. As of now, they are probably a 6 or 7.

Im sitting here watching Mike Davis and Texas Southern and it got me thinking about coaches who have made great runs.

Which, then made me realize that this years tournament is going to have THREE coaches riding 6 game winning streaks with in the NCAAs. Larry Brown, Cal and Pitino. That is remarkable. Has to be a first.

Some great coaching stories this year.

Cliff Ellis at Coastal Carolina.
Derrick Kellogg at UMass.
Danny Manning at Tulsa.
Larry Brown at SMU.

Adding to the coaching, and I touched on it earlier. Mike Davis is about to take his 3rd team to the NCAA Tournament.

I still stand by the fact he is a bad coach
