I obviously hope it never happens and Crean can turn it around and make last year a more common occurrence with "down year" being top 25 still...not turning down the CBI bad, lol

As for the transfers, I think he did a poor job of handling Hollowell. The kid had some major on/off court issues and Crean seemed to get tired of dealing with them. They werent even necessarily bad, but just took a lot of time to deal with and Crean seemed to get fed up, which I think is a terrible thing. Etherington I was a bit surprised at. He seemed like a guy who would play decent minutes next year, but then again, he was awful on the offensive side of the ball. Neither of the departures effect the team, they do reflect relatively poor on Crean. He has had a lot of attrition (some necessary with recruiting over guys from his early years) since he has been at IU. The 2 walk-ons...whatever lol. Vonleh, top 10 pick...easy choice. Maybe even higher. Crean didnt utilize an offense suited for him though, which hurt THIS years team.


2012 in Indiana was one of the best classes the state has ever produced. Crean whiffed, pretty much, across the board (save for Yogi). In his defense, IU was still awful and couldnt play favorites talent wise...but still, it hurts looking back.

Kellen Dunham (3/4*) - Butler (committed to Butler before IU got involved, but lots of people say IU couldve had him if they wanted)
Yogi (5*, top 20) (obvious)
Ron Patterson (4*, top 100) (never played for IU, awful stats on Syracuse)
Peter Jurkin (3*/4*) (has yet to see meaningful minutes at IU)
Gary Harris (5*, top 15) (wanted to pull trigger, parents made him wait, IU accepted verbal from Hollowell...rest is history at MSU)
Hanner Parea (4*/5*, top 50) (shows glimpses, but is ultimately lost. Next year will be the test)
Jeremy Hollowell (4*, top 50) (6-7 and has all the skills in the world...transferring out while making more negative plays/impact than positive)
Mitch McGary (5*, top 3) (IU pursued hard, he chose UofM)
Glenn Robinson III (4*, top 50) (IU never even inquired)

Many at IU thought we didnt need Harris cause of his position and we needed Jeremy who was much bigger and could play the 4. When Hollowell committed it was split on if it was good or bad since it meant Harris no longer had an open scholly. Amazing he still almost chose IU. That was the guy that has really hurt Crean, because of the ripple. Harris last year might have won the title for IU.

I wouldnt say that he failed at NM. The lobos had a 53% winning % the 5 seasons prior to his arrival and only 42% in the conference, with only 2 winning seasons. His stint there they won 75% of the games, and 72% of the conference games.

I will give you Iowa. He didnt do great there, but he didnt do horrible either. My reference was of course since I have been following hoops in the early 80's.

I know it probably wouldnt be the best, but something us old IU fans think about.

He, Demon Brown and Curtis Withers were a fucking awesome trio. All three-point assassins with range past 25 feet. Plavich regularly heaved it from 30'. That team could score in bunches. My Final Four pick in 2004 lol.

Yeah, you are probably right. Just seemed like they didnt put much effort in trying to get Vonleh into the game offensively. Figured he would be 1 and done, and you cannot blame him as I would do the same thing, but he would be much better suited with another year I think.

I would be good with Stevens. Hell, I dont even know how well he is doing in the NBA. A "down" year at IU should be losing early in the NCAA tourny, or at the very worst playing in the NIT.

That shot was late btw. In todays replay world (which that shot, and a few others around the time started up), it would not have counted.

Although, being someone who always looks way to into things...Mike Davis might still have been the coach at IU, had that been the case lol. Indiana had a ridiculous stretch of UNC/Kentucky/ND/Missouri/UCONN/Charlotte in 6 straight games. They lost all 6. The Charlotte lose, which in itself didnt propel to more losing, might have been a difference maker at the end. Indiana was 10-6 in the Big Ten and despite an overall schedule of around .500, they were on the bubble. Many believe they were about 2 wins away from the tourney. If they had done that, after losing 5 in a row (with a Charlotte win), Mike Davis seat isnt boiling the following year and who knows, maybe he turns it around???

Im confused...he isnt shunned at all. The fans love what he did for IU.

He has shunned himself by refusing to come back to the various tributes that have been held, not talking about Indiana at all (the first time he actually said Indiana on air was when they played UCONN this year and he broadcast the game). He said the "I Team" a few times before that.

He is a trivial old man who is holding a ridiculous grudge against people who are not even there or DEAD (Myles Brand). It is hurting the fans who want to give him a proper send-off. He isnt shunned by any stretch, except what he is doing himself.

Agreed. I hope he does finally come back for a proper tribute to him. I did lose a some respect for him when he walked out on TT mid season, but I dont know many, well any, IU fans who shun him.

MIke Davis.....I really hated how his teams ended up. He was like Randy Ayers at OSU, he did well with the previous coach's players but when he got his guys in.......it was brutal watching the stand around and chuck it offense he had.

I hated Myles Brand for that. But you're right, that's the guy Knight should be most mad at and he's dead. Unless there are still other administrators there who had a hand in his dismissal, then I'm not sure who he is holding out on other than the program and its fans. He's a proud, proud man, though, and will likely never give in.

Agree with you there. Guys like Knight and his disciple K, who on the outside are a pair of proud, strong-minded, tough and, to some, arrogant sons of bitches, are often as successful as they are because of their strong loyalty and love for the people around them. It's just downright weird that Knight wouldn't have come back for that ceremony. Then again, Knight went almost a decade without speaking to K after Duke beat Indiana at the 1992 Final Four. So he is obviously the ultimate grudge holder lol.

Still love Knight, even with his faults. Sucks for IU fans, though.

On top of that, you had N. Iowa be great for 3 years (2004-2006). They didnt make the the tourney for a whopping 2 seasons and followed it up with an appearance in 2009 and their BEST run to date when they beat Kansas in the 2nd RD in 2010. They have now gone 4 years without making the tournament.

As mentioned in the Duke thread by birddog, Rodney Hood is also gone. Coach K is holding a press conference at 12:15 and will likely discuss that and maybe the status of Jabari Parker. Not good. But can't blame either for wanting to leave.
