"Handpicked" implies that the school goes out and brings the kids in. Despite what skank says...a majority of schools (both private and public) play by the rules and don't go out and get kids.

And yes, urban areas are going to have a better chance of having more athletes based solely on numbers. But as I stated...those rural schools are the only game in town. In the urban areas, those schools are competing against tons of other schools for students.

No I know they actually aren't recruited. What I'm saying is if they're competing with those schools for students, why not have them compete with schools in playoffs too? I mean should a school like VASJ really be in D4? Leipsic played their best and still lost by 25

My point being...because it's all these schools competing for the students, it means that the kids are spread out over all of those school, leading to small enrollment numbers.

And I'm not even sure what you're talking about with Leipsic. They have beaten 13 teams with winning records over the last four years. 47 games, and only beat 13 teams with winning records. That tells me that they think they are great because they beat up on a bunch of teams that end the year with 3-7 records and then when they have to play a real team in the playoffs, they get beat. Happens all the time.

So since Cardinal Strich can draw all over Toledo they should be in same division as Toledo St Johns?

I don't know much about Toledo schools. But if they fall within the same attendance numbers...then yes, they should.

But since they're in Clay's district they won't be crushed by the numbers. But yeah unfortunately for schools like Stritch and Toledo Christian they're going to get the bad end of the stick. However we're talking being bumped up to D4 at best, this will not affect them the way it will schools like a Kettering Alter, Mooney, SVSM or Ursuline who have over half their student body in football, with many D1 talents. Stritch and TC are not exactly sports destinations

Leipsic got to the D4 state title and played VASJ who basically looked like a MAC team. :laughretty good for a D4 school to be throwing down alley oops all game

Ahh..that's why I didn't know what you were talking about. I don't pay attention to high school basketball outside of my alma mater. I thought you were talking about football and couldn't figure out what you were talking about.

No I was watching it on STO and couldn't believe this was a D4 school. Now if they're in D2, it may be a different story. I'm not anti private school, in fact I go to basically all Central Catholic games, but they're owning in the smaller schools and little towns will never be able to compete. I don't want everyone to get a trophy, I just am sick of seeing the equivalent of a solid MLB team rip apart a AA league. The Indians might not be that good but I think it's safe to say they could handle the Akron Aeros

And I've never been opposed to a multiplier. I have no problem with that, but my problem with the previously proposed plan was that it wasn't the same across the board. If you're going to punish private schools for having kids from outside the district, then it should affect OE public schools the same way.

This proposal does that, so I have no gripe with it.

I still like the idea I had where you designate each grade school as a feeder school for a high school. If a student came in from your feeder system, that student counts as 1. If a student came in from outside your feeder system, that student would be tagged with a multiplier. That way, it literally affects all schools. Half of my graduating class from 8th grade went to public high schools. Nobody cared about that. But the kids that go from a public grade school to a private high school raises hell.

D-1 schools will not care about it and will probably not even vote. It dose nothing about the fact that private schools cream off the top. Still, better than a split or nothing. My guess it will pass by a lot.

Stritch and Toledo Christian can NOT compete in DIV. They are those schools that should clearly be given a waiver especially for the kids that have been in their grade school system since first grade as someone pointed out on another site. This is still an issue that needs to be worked out. While Ursuline and Mooney certainly can play up currently most privates cannot.

I agree VASJ could have easily played up this year. But you may want to look at the D4 championships over the last 13 years. I believe that public schools have won 11 and privates have only won 2. VASJ was the first private school to win D4 since I believe 2002 or 2003, someone can check but I know only two have won over that period. So while yes, VASJ is ridiculously loaded this year, public schools have done great in D4.

I know our school gets a number of kids in open enrollment but only one has played FB< and he came over in 6th grade.
I am glad that they would take how many are on the roster and not just how many who open enroll.

Ya think this would lead to cuts at all on teams?

That was like a few yaers ago when COldwater played Bedford Chanel St Peter. Dont remember if there was ally oops and such but lets just say there were more black kids on their team then they had in attendance for their school.....they basically had kids come in just for the sports!

Oh I don't want to persecute parochials and I'm not saying public schools cannot compete. I just think we need a system so little Leipsic doesn't get matched up with a Cleveland all star team in the state title again. Either way it won't be until 2015 when the system is in place
