Hard to figure this team out. Get destroyed by the Cards, sweep the Rangers. Huge final homestand. Go Bucs!

Started off the homestand in great fashion. Not just the fact they won, but for the first time since the All-Star break, we got to see the Jeff Locke of before the All-Star break, as he pitched 7 strong and efficient innings.

He doesn't have to be the guy who started 9-3 with a 2.1 ERA, but just being good down the stretch is a huge boost to the team as far as playoff positioning goes.

I just wish Washington would lose again sometime. After all these years of losing, I don't feel like I can relax personally until the magic number is down to zero for the playoffs. Pirates have won four straight games and only taken one off that number per night because the Nats have entered unbeatable mode.

Dropping the first three against the Padres was not how I was expecting things to go.

At least Washington lost one of their games with Atlanta, so the magic number is down to four or so. But they'll have to be on point for the rest of the year if they even want to be the home field team for the wild card game.

That was better. Gerrit Cole to the rescue and the team got over twice as many runs today as they did the first three games combined.

Need at least 2/3 against Cincy this weekend.

Mega-choke by the Pirates tonight. Not sure they can bounce back from such a deflating loss.

Lol. I knew you Reds guys would be all over that. .of course he threw at him. It's a brilliant strategy that worked last year for the Reds. A game that is seemly over, get into the minds of the Pirates for the rest of the series. I was so sure they'd do it I bet a co-worker 50 bucks the Reds would hit Cutch sometime this series. Easiest money I ever made. I'm just pissed the umps gave a warning before the Pirates could retaliate. It will be interesting to see how AJ reacts today.

Regarding Choo. Who doesn't hit him? Everyone and his wife hits him.

Yeah that game last night was seemingly over. Then OOOPS the pirates blew it. Most have been that great strategy to hit cutch by Sam Badass Lecure.

Lol. Go play on the Reds thread. Not butthurt at all. It's baseball. What fucking sucks is the umpires have taken the policing of the game from the players. Pirates cant retaliate with the premature warnings.

Fact. McCutchen has been hit 4 times by the Reds this year. 8 times in 2 years. Coincidence?

Dude you seriously cannot actually believe the reds are intentionally trying to plunk cutch or any of the pirates? Come on, fuck outta here.

Nice win by the Buccos tonight. Sucks that they are going for the series win tomorrow as opposed to the sweep.

Maybe he needs to learn how to bail out of the box.

Disappointing series mainly because of Friday. Need to just dominate the Cubs. With Morton, Cole and Liriano (all pitching well now), they have the arms to do so, but the whole "been mediocre since beginning of August" thing is worrisome, since it's looking more and more like they're going to be in the wild card game with the Reds than anything else -- which would pretty much be a coin flip regardless of which team hosts the game.

And are now officially in the playoffs with Washington's loss to St. Louis.

Would have rather had the Cards win as with 5 games to go, they'd be 5 up on the Nats and 1 behind the Cards. Instead, it's 2 back with no one else to worry about besides Cincinnati and with three games against them, one way or the other, that problem will sort itself out.

Plus, everyone's happy when the Cardinals lose.
