That's a flaw with any sport broadcasting not just wrestling.

Got that right. I'm in as well. My first thought when I heard about the axing this morning. #SaveOlympicWrestling

As big a soccer fan that I am, I won't even support the Olympic soccer events. IOC is ruining things just like NCAA and NFHS. Stupid governing organizations.

yeah..i was talking about all broadcasting. Seems to happen more often though with olympic events when you get a person who maybe doesnt announce alot and is the resident expert but just gets too damned technical and detailed.

This sucks. I actually enjoyed watching wrestling in the last Olympics. I kinda understood baseball and softball being cut because they were dominated by just a few select countries but Wrestling has had Gold Medalists from quite a few countries in each Olympics. I will be interest to see Chael Sonnen's commentary on this because he still supports USA wrestling a lot.

There's a petition for the US to step up and do something to stop the IOC from ruining it.

"While the sport won’t be considered one of the core competitions, there’s a chance, albeit slight, that Olympic wrestling will be at the 2020 Games.

Wrestling will be one of seven sports vying for a spot on the program with karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboards, wushu and a combined bid from baseball and softball, the AP reported.

The newswire service, however, noted that chances are slim that the IOC would add Olympic wrestling so soon after booting it from the core sports list."

Of the alternatives, baseball and softball should be on there but don't deserve it over wrestling. And the bolded ones are a fucking joke. What in the hell is WUSHU?

This is a damn shame. Wrestling is a great sport that has a broad base of competitive countries. For those that think it is gay, I wish you could take part in a typical HS wrestling team's season. It is mentally and physically very demanding. Great wrestlers are incredible athletes who have my respect.

The guy who has a picture of Tom Brady as his avatar called wrestling gay. Does it bother you that a great QB starts every single play by putting his hands up against the center's sack?

Yes, actually I am. Pretty pissed to be honest.

The funny thing is most of the people who play the ignorant "gay" card are huge fans of the UFC. Also, I am not 100% sure, but I believe sheckler's last photo was of women's wrestling. LOLfail on him.
Automatik;1387676 wrote:Of ALL the sports in the Olympics I can't believe they chose to get rid of this one. I'm not a huge fan of watching freestyle or greco. It bores me more often then not, I prefer folkstyle. Regardless, I think it should be there, it's a classic event.
The IOC pretty much turned their back on their own history.
Laley23;1387680 wrote:I dont have a problem with it as a sport, though it isnt my thing.

My hatred for most sports stems from my work. I broadcast sports and Wrestling is painfully boring for us and takes quite a bit of time. Plus, it isnt structured for TV well, though it isnt as bad as some others. For instance, we get a pin in the first round, we have to wait till the other mats are cleared till the next match starts. Well, that blows when you are live and have to fill with nothing for 10 minutes. Thus, my hatred for wrestling...simple as that lol. Nothing more.

I do love that it has a clock though. After working in television, all sports without a clock should be abandoned.
Why not just film the other matches that are going on?

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White tweeted his displeasure with the IOC's plans: "IOC come on seriously wrestling is a sport that almost every country does and you drop it I'm pissed #saveolympicwrestling".

Roddy White is gay.

Don't make fun of them. You might make them boo-hoo, also. They are really getting to me by neg'ing me. I bet that makes their feelings all better. lol

Now leave them and their lil' Asics shoes alone.

Karelin vs. Gardner is one of my favorite Olympic memories and one of the biggest Olympic upsets of all time:

http://www.youtube.com/v/F9yiCuX1hV8

For those who didn't know. Karelin has a Soviet wrestler who won gold in '88, '92, '96 and had said his last Olympics would be in Sydney in '00. He was dominant to the point that he had gone 13 years undefeated and had not even given up a single point in the 6 years prior to the Finals of the Sydney Olympics.

It is customary for a retiring wrestler to take his shoes off after a final win and leave them at center mat (sort of like hanging up your shoes reference in other sports).

Karelin did not get to place his shoes at center mat.

Sadly we'll never get to witness anothe rgreat OLY moment like this again.

Not to get into it, but that wouldnt work well for TV at all.

Couple quick reasons. You need more cameras to get the other mats, which our company wont pay for. But mainly because it would be terrible to just cut into a match mid-way through.
