Why would they even apply up here? No conferences want them down there? Don't you think theres a reason for all of that? Plus, whats our motivation to drive all the way down to Steubenville... Hopefully the AAC says no. Not worth it

Most of us Big Red people are very respectable. It's a shame we have some rotten apples in our midst.

Anyway, to answer your question, your motivations are money and Harbin points. Every time we go on the road, we take at least 3000 people with us. That's not a bad gate receipt. And the worst regular-season record we have had in the past ten years was 8-2. Any team that can beat us gets huge Harbins. That is why you want us in the conference.

How many posts did you make on this site where you blamed the victim?

We can get harbin points from teams not an hour and a half away. The conference isn't starved for them. Stuby, on the other hand is starved for opponents.. If the house doesn't fall on big red football soon ill be very surprised.

Top tier with Steubenville, Harding, Ytown East, Boardman, Fitch, Ursuline, and Mooney sounds good to me. It would be the tier of misfit teams that either can't find a home or no one wants to play. Add YCS and Warren JFK in one of the lower tiers.

Unfortunately, many of them are among those that travel to games. Personally, I don't want those creeps in my town.

I honestly don't see Big Red being accepted unless they apply for all sports.

I don't see them accepted in any fashion, as every time an OVAC school has joined they have bailed after a couple years (East Liverpool with the MAC, Beaver Local done with AAC after this spring)... and this one is another 35 minutes down river!

The only way the house would fall in on Big Red is if the rapists are acquitted. That would blow the top off the whole town. As far as the team is concerned, we may lose a few players and we may have difficultly in getting a schedule for a year or two, but eventually everything will be back to normal. That is not necessarily a good thing, but it is what I think will happen.

As far as Reno is concerned, I think he is ready to retire, but he doesn't want to do so under pressure. If he gets through this season, he will probably leave at the end of the school year. I doubt if he will be charged with anything.

Sadly, you're probably right. This is going to be a tough year for Big Red. I'm going to start a one-man campaign to get rid of Reno. I probably won't succeed, but at least I will try. He is an open wound that will not heal. Any help will be appreciated.

I think that's it. But look at that and it goes back to what I said before.... small school side gets big enough to split off on their own, big schools basically just fall apart or are forced to make a conference together against every fiber of their being.

Why don't you think Big Red won't get in? Because of the scandal or because the other teams don't want the competition?

Schools aren't going to want a member that will be 1.5-2 hours away by bus for the northern members when they have other options.

What conferences? All there is in the Steubenville area is the OVAC and it is lousy for football. Most of the teams in that league won't even play us because they know it is an automatic loss.

We should have gotten into the ECOL when we had the chance. They gave us an invitation and our school turned them down. When one of the boosters asked Reno why, he gave one of his typical arrogant answers: "I don't know and I wouldn't tell you if I did." Now we have to scrounge to find football games. We could be playing respectable teams like Dover and New Philadelphia and Zanesville. I will admit that we play some very interesting games because we are not in a conference. Just in the past few years, we have played Massillon, Ursuline, McKeesport, Woodland Hills, Watterson, Poland, and a great many others. And every year our schedule is different. I would be willing to bet that Big Red has played more different teams in the school's history than any other school in America. The current total is about 220 different teams.

What we lack is a natural rival. Ever since Steubenville Catholic Central gave up on us because they were too small to compete, we have been searching for a rival.

I think that is a good reason why we should be in it for football only. It's not going to hurt anybody to take one or two long bus rides a year for football. But why would we want to travel for two hours for girls' volleyball?

Back in the days of the old All-American Conference, Big Red scheduled teams so that we would go to Massillon one year and Canton McKinley the next, and go to Niles one year and Warren Harding the next. Of course, Alliance ultimately got into the mix, but it was still the case where Big Red would only make one trip (or two at max) to Stark County each year and only one trip to the Youngstown area. The Big Red people were very happy with this arrangement. I'd like to see something like that happen today.

You have said why it makes sense for Big Red, but why would schools from northern Trumbull Country or Ashtabula County (depending upon what happens with expansion) want to do this. They do not have any trouble filling their schedules. If Big Red wanted to be part of a football only conference with Youngstown area their best bet would be to start a new football conference with teams such as Ursuline, Mooney, East, Fitch, Boardman, Harding, etc......none of these teams seem to be able to find a home for football.

So what is so bad about making long away trips? When I was in high school back in the 1960's, we traveled to Massillon, Canton, and Warren on a regular basis. Those were long trips, but we had a great time. High school kids need to get out of their communities and see how the rest of the world lives.

But in more direct answer to your question, Steubenville pays well. We have a 10,000 seat stadium and we fill it when we play Ohio teams. It would be worth while financially for these teams to play us.

With the way things are in the ville, I am not sure I would mention that when trying to convince schools to come down for a game.
