The All-American Conference (Youngstown area) is looking into expansion and accepting applications....any rumors on who wants in?

The ITCL schools are happy where they are, and the big AAC schools want NOTHING to do with any area big school that isn't in the conference. The whole reason there were originally 3 divisions was to appease everyone that was scared of playing half of the schools in it.

I'd think the chances of the smaller schools spinning off on their own (because they're all pretty content) and hanging the upper schools out to dry is more realistic than an expansion.

I heard 3 schools may join....one from Ashtabula, Trumbull, and Stark County.....

What schools? I also heard boardman put a bid in for ALL sports. Acceptance is highly unlikely.

Would Brookfield try to get back in since their program has improved since they left?

I'd like to see JFK in. Wouldn't mind havin Salem back as well.

Harding won't get a single vote from a big school. Even if they left football out, no one wants them in there for basketball either. Brookfield is waiting to see how everything shakes out before committing.

Since likely nothing will change after Harding gets denied, Brookfield may still decline any re-acceptance and keep as they are.

This looks like a very balanced and competitive league from the top to the bottom...with this set up you would be able to play 6 in conference games and you could play weeks 1-4 non conference with a likely crossover for many of the schools during those weeks. The two tier system won't last so they need to expand at the top because that is where this conference is lacking. It is unlikely however that Howland, Canfield and Poland will pony up and play those bigger schools but they are out numbered by the smaller schools. If they don't like the reconfiguration then let them walk and suffer the schedule problems of an independent....they will end up playing twice as hard of a schedule if they are on their own. That middle tier is a monster football conference and the lower tier schools are competitively balanced. Get it done!!

Howland, Canfield and Poland want nothing to do with playing the other big schools every year. Maybe one of them each year, but not all in the same year, every year.

I know the larger old TAC schools would like it to go to 3 divisions. They voted the creation of the AAC down all along because they didn't want anything to do with the MAC schools that were their size and wanted to just be able to continue to pound on the D5-6 TAC schools (and get smoked out of the playoffs in the first round).

But, you're not going to get the big MAC schools to take any other big schools on to have enough schools to truly go to 3 divisions (the original 16 schools in 3 divisions, with the small school half in one division and the big school half split over 2 divisions, was idiotic).

As I said, the fact that outside of the D5-6 schools, no one wants to play anyone makes the most common sense approaches unrealistic.

They should tell Brookfield to eff off. They were in and then bailed. Make em wait for 5 years before they can apply again. They were out for one season.

We've always had a hard time getting a schedule. This year is worse than ever. Of the five games that I know of that we have scheduled, three of them are on the road. I foresee more away games this year.

I doubt they are accepted.

I can't see Big Red being accepted as a football only entry into the league. Why not all sports? I suppose it's the travel expenses, certainly something the Big Red football program is not used to doing .............traveling. Youngstown Christian has also applied as of today.

YCS would be a nice addition. Would they be in the small tier, or get the second tier because they're private?

You people are crazy. Big Red doesn't make many trips, but the trips we take are usually long. Recently we have gone as far as 150 miles to Columbus to play Watterson. Last year we made two 70-mile trips to Massillon and Morgantown. And in every case, we took 3000 people. This year we will drive 100 miles to play at Barberton and another 65 to play at Ursuline. The only local team we play home and home is Brooke.

Reno hates it when I quote him on these blogs, but I will do it anyway. A couple of years ago, we (Boosters Club members) asked him why we play so many home games. This is the answer he gave. We have 4000 season ticket holders. They pay $6 per seat per game. If we play the worst team in North America, we still get $24,000. Even if we have to put them up in a motel, we still clear at least $20,000. If we go on the road, we get expenses. By playing eight home games, we clear around $200,000. That pays for two math teachers. Football is a cash cow for Big Red. I understand what they are doing and I totally approve, especially since they also get a lot of Harbin points for their schedule. We have a good thing going, and I hope the school continues to do it.

Once they tell Big Red that away games are involved, it's over.
