Statement from Te'o:
This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her.

To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life.

I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been.

In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.
How is it possible he wasn't in on it? That's the part I need help understanding.

Sportscenter showing his interview from October 2....I don't believe him for a second that it was a made up girl, more like a made up drama story for himself.

Hope Oprah or Jim Gray give him a softball interview.

Sorry, but someone you've never met in person is NOT your girlfriend. Even if all this is true (and at the moment, I'm not buying), he should have straighted that out as it was being played out.

In that 10/2 interview it certainly sounded as if he had been in her physical presence at some point making it completely something he was in on IMO. If not he is one of the dumbest SOB's out there!

There were quotes from Manti's dad that they did meet in person though, in Hawaii. And something from the South Bend Tribune about them first meeting in person after Stanford-ND in 2009.

Seth Meyers ‏@sethmeyers21 These Te'o jokes are all very funny but let's all try and remember that a person who never existed is dead.

LOL at the Alex Anzalone picture, and WTF about that tweet? This is so freaking bizarre. There is absolutely no way he didn't know about this.

I'm all for waiting for the evidence to come out. Fine. However, if it's true, he was definitely involved and likely perpetuated the lie for his own benefit. How you could NOT know about something like this that was a central story surrounding you?

His statement is so funny. He was so in on this and Notre Dame got so much publicity because of him.

After Notre Dame's 20-3 win over Michigan State on Sept. 15, Teo said: "My family and my girlfriend's family have received so much love and support from the Notre Dame family,"
So who is the family that Teo talks of? Did Teo not attend the funeral of the "girl" that he loved?
