It's actually looking like Te'o really didn't know it wasn't a prank until December and wasn't fully convinced until the Deadspin report. He lied to his parents about actually meeting her and lied about the seriousness of their relationship(he said it didn't get serious until April but he had told ESPN or SI that their official date was October 15, 2011 I believe). Is the most likely story that Te'o found out it was fake early on then embellished it all for more publicity? Or has anything else surfaced that supports the claim that maybe he was in on it? I'm leaning towards the first, but wasn't sure of anything new.
I can believe that narrative to an extent. The more information comes out (e.g. Deadspin's twitter timeline from day), the more inconsistencies arise. It appears that while he probably wasn't behind the hoax itself, the embellishment went far beyond being "embarrassed" to be in an online relationship. I don't know about that. But unless someone can come up with proof that Te'o was behind it, it will be ND fans believing what Te'o said and ND haters believing that Te'o did it and paid people off so that he'd come out unharmed by the story.Pick6;1371753 wrote:This story will die like I assumed in the beginning. I think the truth lies somewhere in between. But as you said, the story will die and we will probably never know the actual truth.
