This is fair....but, baring a trade, Weeden will be the starting QB. He fits Turner's skill set and he should be much better in his type of offense.

Probably won't commit till after the draft. If the front office gets the feeling that a team after us (Buffalo or Arizona) want to draft a QB we can try to get an extra pick out of them like what the Vikings did to us last year.

Only a schmuck could write this. Also, the plain dealer is further proving how much of a joke it is.

"We have a young guy.." Had to LOL at that part of the article. Im fine with not giving up on Weeden yet, but atleast bring somebody in to compete with him.

My thoughts exactly. Really no other reason to recycle a Baltimore Sun article about Art Modell, other than trying to piss people off.

[h=1]Alex Smith's next team [/h]January, 28, 2013 Jan 28

PM ET

By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com Even before the 2012 regular season was over, it was clear which teams would be in the market for a QB for 2013 and beyond, and as the offseason got rolling with all the head-coaching moves, the chatter on the QB market has only intensified. One of the names that continues to pop up as an option for QB-needy teams is Alex Smith, currently employed by the San Francisco 49ers as their backup QB.

We say currently, because it's expected that the Niners will attempt to market him in trade once the new league year begins. However, if it were up to Smith, he'd rather find a destination of his own choosing. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Utah product is seeking his release prior to the start of the next league year in March.

Smith will lose his current contract (with $8.5 million for 2013) if that winds up being the case; on the other hand, the new one he signs could be more lucrative given the number of teams looking to find another starting option for the upcoming season. The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles have all been mentioned as speculative possibilities thus far. We've heard that the idea of his landing in Cleveland has something more to it than just idle speculation. Stay tuned.

What would be the trade price for Smith at 8.5M?

Well he will either be cut or released. Nobody will trade for him, so no worries.

He doesn't fit what the new regime wants to do. He doesn't have the arm to play in a vertical offense. No thanks.

Exactly. Smith was playing well, and the 9ers still sat him. That should tell everyone what they need to know.

The 9ers sat him because they had a better option. The Browns do not have a better option than Smith.

You and Royal K are spot on with this. Franchise QB's don't "hit the market" in free agency. Shit, I'd rather see them draft another QB than sign Smith who is another square peg in a round hole. Franchise QB's don't lose their job to a 2nd year QB. You don't just grab a QB for the sake of grabbing one because he might be a marginal, at best, upgrade.

That's your opinion

Smith is a dink and dunk QB. He doesn't stretch the field, which is what they want to do. So yes, they do have a better option.

True, I have great optimism that a guy that completed 57% of his passes this year will be more accurate the further he has to throw it.

Luck had 54.1% completion percentage

Yea, he was throwing the ball downfield and led his team to 7 4th quarter victories. Weeden struggled to hit 5 yard crossing patterns and outs. I hope to eat crow on Weeden, but at no point during the season did he seem like a viable NFL QB.

C'mon man......72 quarterback rating ain't all that bad, is it? Compare that to Smith's 104 rating, and 70% completion rate.

Add in a 13-5 TD to Int ratio and voilla....you bring out the Browns fans that want to watch Derek Anderson's twin play for a few more years.

Like George Allen said back in the early 70's after taking over for the horrible redskins..."the future is now".

Alex Smith was absolutely horrible his first few years. But under the tutelege of a great coach, he has proven to me now that he can not only play...but he can win.

Not even against the Raiders? What about the first Bungals game? How about against the Cowgirls? Colts?
