You don't watch Monday Night Football? NBA? Sunday Night Baseball or regular MLB? US Open, Masters coverage?

Not really....

Nba sucks, I only watch the tribe and they are never on espn, don't follow golf or tennis. Mnf...I would, but the games haven't appealed to me lately

Was kind of thinking the same. It was either History or Discovery that ran a bunch of Mayan 2012 crap. I didn't think those channels would sink to such ridiculously fictional garbage. A couple were decent, like 10 ways the Earth could meet its end (but then they attached these stupid probabilities to it for dramatic effect).

Look at it this way: It's what sells. Americans are getting really stupid and [intellectually] lazy.

The only networks that seem to do decent original programming anymore are HBO, USA, A&E and FX. Showtime, too, I suppose.

I quit watching MTV 20 years ago. It was great in the 80s though, because I was working for the cable co when they came to Daytona Spring Break. I partied with Martha Quinn and lots of 80s bands.

Without question.

There are women at my place of employment, for example, who live to watch Dances with the Stars and before that it was brain-dead programs like America's Got Talent and American Idol.

How's that different than most of us men who live to watch NFL, MLB, NCAA, and NBA?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but a lot of people conider those "brain dead" programming as well.

Good point. I LOVE The Herd and enjoy listening to Mike Greenberg . SVP is a quality show, just on at a bad time [for me].

VH1 has turned into MTV light. Plus, we have them to thank for ridiculous shows like Flavor of Love, and Hip Hop/Basketball/Baseball/Football wives.

Any channel that has sold its soul for the garbage that is "reality" based tv.

Disney channel. Back in the 90's they had pretty good family entertainment in the evenings and decent shows for the kids in the mornings, plus it was commercial free.

Travel Channel...when it became a cooking channel.

it's not really the programming on espn that is the problem. its that the content of the programming that has morphed into slim to none "sports journalism" to almost exclusively "tmz sports" that is espn's biggest problem nowadays

Don't hate because ESPN isn't totally awful. PTI is pretty great as well and they have Bill Simmons who is the best sports writer around

Sportscenter and other ESPN highlight shows jumped the shark years ago, particularly for football, when it became all about fantasy points and superstars. They stopped showing and telling you what happened in games - especially for lower profile games - in order to have time to show you five angles of Lebron dunking a ball.

Add to that dumping in a bunch of over the top panache and overused cliches to "jazz up" the highlights and it just became unwatchable. It became like WWF-style delivery, and it was usually too painful to watch.
