He did say he wasn't sure if he'd go back to tOSU. I thought the most interesting part was they they were honoring his scholarship, and he's apparently not expelled.

I think he's a piece of crap but he hasn't been charged with anything yet and still deserves due process.

They won't be for long thanks to his comment, the pressure will continue against Ohio State now. Why his attorney would state that publically is beyond me. He should have said nothing and stayed below the radar for a while to see how things are next semester. Now it is pretty certain that Ohio State will take further action, i.e. expulsion and withdrawal of the scholarship. It may have happened anyway but it seems like it would have been the prudent thing to say nothing at this point.

I agree with this. However if my daughter went to OSU, I'd have some reservations about sending her to the same place as this guy for fear that she'd end up "dead".

You don't have to be charged with anything or found guilty of a crime to lose a scholarship or be expelled from a school. A college can look at moral issues and the conduct of a student and decide they no longer want him at their institution. There are repercussions to actions that have nothing to do with the criminal system.

I understand your concerns, but in a school with 50k+ students, the odds are in your daughter's favor ;)

TBH, I think it would set a bad precedent to do that. The incident happened before he even enrolled at school, and he hasn't been charged with a crime. IMO, just being a colossal douchnozzle isn't reason to revoke a scholarship.

I'm fine with that but I assume the school still has a process they would go through and he can appeal.

And out of those 50,000 (and the surrounding area/bars) there are plenty of dumb asses that would be willing to do it. They just haven't made a video about it.

Public colleges generally keep the bar so low that you can trip over it in terms of moralistic things you can do to get nailed for. Private schools are another story.

You are wrong on this one Fish. Most colleges have moral clauses with their scholarships and they apply to non school activities even before you enroll. Any competent high school guidance couselor knows this and will advise scholarship students. Watching what you do and say on social media is a biggie.

While they may "generally keep the bar so low," not all do. Nor do all colleges and universities face this sort of high profile public matter on a regular basis. Schools cannot allow people like this to be around anymore, if they do, we'll continue to see problems and results like Penn State -- sorry, had to bring up the school because they have made a MAJOR impact on how schools operate.

You should probably freak out b/c there are plenty of rapists at any university. You should home-school your daughter in a bunker and then lock her in once she's finished.

I'm well aware of the potential dangers outside of this one particular guy. My point was more figurative in that this isn't the type of person a parent seeks out as a fellow-student. I don't literally have a daughter of college age yet, so no one needs to continue to wake me up to the realities of the student body - I' aware of them.

I think Michael Nodianos was drunk and showing off for his friends when he made this video. It was absolutely dispiceble for sure. But it can't go beyond that. Obviously there isn't a violation of the law, so his punishment is living with the consequences of what he did.

It would depend on where the scholarship came from, wouldn't it? If it was directly from the university, I can see your point to an extent. There are some rumors out there that most if not all his money is from outside scholarships.

Unless it's found that he's guilty of a crime, IMO being the most hated kid in America for 15 minutes and having his future professional life effectively ruined seems appropriate.
