Both teams undefeated. Garaway looking to shock everyone. This game shouldn't be close - which is why it might be.

Looking at common opponents doesn't mean much sometimes, but Garaway beat TCC 39-29 while Hiland won 89-15. On Saturday Garaway beat Ridgewood 21-19. Looks like they are taking the controlled slow down to heights (or depths) never seen before. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

It could be interesting... or it could induce a hypnotic coma if the tempo goes Garaway's way.

Final score Hiland 61-40. Tied after one quarter, I think 11-11. Halftime score, Hiland 32-22. Midway throught the third quarter Garaway closed to 6, 35-29, but Hiland finished the quarter on a 14-2 run making the score 49-31, and it was never close again.

Stats:
Noelle Yoder had a big night with 25 pts (3-5 threes, 5-8 2s, 6-6FT); Stuckey had 16 pts. (4-4 threes, 8-10FT). Stutzman, and McKenzie Miller had 8 each. Hilary 4 after spending a good part of the game on the bench with foul trouble. For Garaway, Troyer had 16 pts (1-1 threes 4-7 2s, 5-6FT).

For the game Hiland was 5-14 on threes, 13-25 on 2s, and 20-23 FTs, with 4 TOs and 19Rb. Garaway was 1-2 on 3s, 14-27 on 2s, and 9-15 FTs, with 14 TOs, and 21RBs.

The biggest difference in the game was turnovers and free throws. Against Garaway's always solid defense, 4 turnovers is a remarkably small number. Actually, it's an outstanding number against any team. Hiland got to the free throw line more than Hiland, and hit 87%; wish they could shoot that well all of the time. Garaway's 14 turnovers is actually not bad for a Hiland-Garaway game, but having 10 more than Hiland is a big differenetial.

Enjoyable game. Yoder and Stuckey were big and Hilary makes the whole thing go. Kenzie made as long a 3 as I've seen in girls basketball - maybe 4-5 feet behind the line. Both defenses were good. Kristin Troyer is a very nice player and I was really impressed with the frosh post, Misko. They need to get the ball more to her. She's strong and fearless.

Hiland's pressure just won't allow Garaway to have the game at their pace. The Pirates can shorten the game and keep the score down, but to win they need the game to be in the 30's and Hiland has too much firepower.

Merry Christmas to all... except the CV fan who yelled, "Kick her in the head!" when Hilary Weaver dove on the floor for a ball last Saturday... to them I say, "Bah, humbug"!

Mark Longsinger did comment on that long three. Something to the effect that if she was any further away from the basket she would have been out of bounds. I didn't know that Kenzie took shots that long. It's nice to see her shooting with confidence.

In the 2008 title game Jena made two threes in the 25-27 foot range. On the foul line extended, pretty close to the out of bounds line. Those are as long as I've ever seen.

Talked to her after the game. She said she didn't realize that she was that far out until she started to shoot it, and by then it was too late - so she figured she'd better make it!

why am i not surprised that my first post on this site has something to do with the lack of class from CV...its unnecessary. southern local was horrible the other night too, theyre fans are unbelievable!!!

Southern Local was unbelievable. The two blue hairs in the top row that wanted to fight the whole Malvern student section were my favorite.

The CV fans are hard to figure. I'm sure they are nice country folks. Maybe the losing gets to them. Or maybe, as it was suggested to me, they don't see good basketball, so they cheer for odd things. For example, what do you do when you see an opposing player fouled hard going to the basket and they hit the floor hard? My first reaction is "I hope they are OK" and that is probably the typical reaction. The CV fans cheer the loudest on such plays. It's very strange. But there is no explanation for "Kick her in the head!"

I'd pay to see Southern Local play Conotton!

If experience matters, it may have been a good fight. The combined ages of the two sides would have been pretty close.

Hawkeyez, if your theory is correct, the real question is "How do the Malvern girls sports fans keep their pleasant and sportsmanlike demeanor?"

I'm gonna say that they see good basketball on the boys' side and that they anticipate changes will be coming on the girls's side. Read into that what you want!

id say it has something to do with the good nature and character of the malvern faithful, weve all been born with the instinct to care for others and not want harm to be upon them...some people act like it some people just dont...

and i totally agree, id pay to see southern and cv go at it. but could it please be at a neutral site where theres enough room to breathe? haha. instead of a cheerleaders they should bring in security...biggest problem would be to find someone crazy enough to ref that game. i doubt either school has enough money to fund a 3 man crew...
