Wtf? Whats ratings have to do with this? Its a HUGE news story of course they're gonna be reporting it all day. I swear to god some people (see:retards) will complain about anything.tk421;1343119 wrote:in other words, no one has a fucking clue. Hate the way the media goes crazy when these type of things happen. You know the networks love it, playing the story all day long over and over, ratings will be huge. It just gives more attention to these wackos, which is what they want. They know they will die doing it, but their names will live on because the media can't help itself.

I do see his point though. I'm not saying the networks "love it" or anything, but the killers do know they will get their 15 minutes of fame because of the media.SportsAndLady;1343129 wrote:Wtf? Actually ratings are def on their mind. And breaking the big story. That's why they're interviewing anyone and everyone that will talk. Including kids, which is ridiculous.

It is. This poor boy they talked to. He was standing in front of some workers that were building some type of wall. And he was already looking a little panicked. And then the workers would hit the wall with a hammer and he would start lookin around. Like he was worried it was more gunshots. I just can't believe someone producing these isn't saying to them, hey no kids. That's so f'd up!

yes. let's not report the news for fear of awarding murderers with their desired fame. that's the ticket!GoChiefs;1343131 wrote:I do see his point though. I'm not saying the networks "love it" or anything, but the killers do know they will get their 15 minutes of fame because of the media.

That's not my point..my point is they're covering a huge story. Because that's what news outlets do. The fact hes pissed off that they're just doing this for ratings is just bitching to bitch.Midstate01;1343132 wrote:Actually ratings are def on their mind. And breaking the big story. I'm not pissed off, I'm not even watching the coverage. I don't care what they do, I just think it's a reason why these people do what they do. Everyone knows who Manson is. Everyone knows the Columbine kids. The media puts these people out there constantly over and over. They make movies, they write books, they make their names live forever. The media when this happens should when they finally have all the correct information report the names once and only once. There is no need to keep showing pictures and putting his name out there more than that.

Maybe so. But they do EVERYTHING for ratings. So while they are certainly sad to see the story and wouldn't celebrate it. You don't go interviewing anyone and everyone just for the story. You're trying to bring in more viewers by giving first hand accounts. I'm not saying its all bad, except interviewing kids, but it's what they do.
Just like espn talks about Tim tebow everyday even when he doesn't even play.

The fact that there are 10 pages on this thread already in just a few hours means that people are glued to this. Of course the media is going to report on the story and cover it comprehensively. As much as everybody says they are sickened by it, people want to follow this type of stuff. It's ambulance chasing from your arm chair. Tragedies are bewitching.

I didn't pay much attention earlier. I was watching a state title game. I got chills when I found out exactly where it is. I have cousins in Brookfield, less than 10 miles from the school. God Bless the victims and families.

Completely true. When 9/11 happened. I had no idea it was 6pm until my mom said dinner was ready. It felt like minutes not hours.

Yep. People complain about the way the media covers the story and how it glorifies the perps, but those same people lap up every minute of coverage and feed into it.reclegend22;1343151 wrote:The fact that there are 10 pages on this thread already in just a few hours means that people are glued to this. It's not that people love to be horrified, it's the fact that people want to know WHY??Mulva;1343162 wrote:Yep. People complain about the way the media covers the story and how it glorifies the perps, but those same people lap up every minute of coverage and feed into it.

That doesn't explain why people slow down and back up traffic to catch a glimpse of a horrific car accident. I didn't mean "love" to imply people are glad stuff like this happens, but I think there's a natural draw to events that shock the senses. Not really relevant to the situation either way I guess.se-alum;1343180 wrote:It's not that people love to be horrified, it's the fact that people want to know WHY??

So apparently he killed his mother at the house, he went to the school for the sole purpose of killing the children. Fucking disgusting.

I also heard the guns were registered in his mother's name. So, he kills his mother, takes her guns and commits this horrendous crime. Don't see how anything would ever stop that from happening.

the rifle was found in a trunk, so I don't think it was used? I know this is terrible, but don't see how you can punish law abiding Americans for this kid's actions. Nothing would have stopped him, maybe not even having metal dectors and armed guards. Then you probably just have a shootout.

Metal detector in one door everyone must enter......if detected clear another door to inside the school.
It's scary...my school has the front doors unlocked and you go in and the office is about 25 feet in and on the right but my gym full of kids is about 10 feet in on the left. We have our share of crazies. I actually have 2 plans in my head if something like this would ever happen.
Honestly though.....my money would be on 3rd-6th grader doing it.....being around that many kids everyday I don't feel it to be far-fetched at all. Do I believe it will happen? No, but it wouldn't be shocking to me.

That would certainly slow down the entrance of children to the schools. Imagine these huge schools with thousands of students all going through one entrance and medal detectors. Kids have metal objects, so each and every one of them would have to be wanded and searched. All bags would have to be searched. It would make the TSA look like a lean and efficient organization.
They can do this at airports because there are only so many of them, there are thousands of schools across this country. Which ones get protection and which ones don't? Who pays for it? Do you increase property taxes? How much? Do you have to ban all metal items from coming to school?
