It's also worth mentioning, Time Warner started recently charging an extra few bucks a month for a modem rental fee (if you have Road Runner). You can get around the fee by buying your own modem.

Used to get cable free for over 10 years, Neighbors got it free for close to 20.

TWC did a sweep two years ago and cut off alot of people who were getting it free. There were so many drive by disconnects over the years. I always tell people when you move......before you order cable you should hook a tv up to see if it works. ALot of people get it free because the cable guy is too lazy, busy, to disconnect it and just turns in the order as done and the bill stops coming.
You may not be able to get all the cool digital stuff...to to me getting 70+ channels free on regular cable was better than getting some of the cool dvr/digital stuff that ya had to pay for

That's basically how I am right now. I have no issues watching ESPN in standard def if I don't have to pay for it.

None. I just have small ones pretty much all over the house. The only 3 I regularly use are the basement, family room and bedroom. I just have others scattered about (porch, garage, laundry room, guest room) because if I am working on something I like the ambient noise of having it on in the background.

I would live without boxes for all but my main 3, but it just is aggravating that all the sudden the convenience me and many like me have had by being able to put a TV wherever and use the cable we pay for is all the sudden likely to be taken way unless we decide to take on a mortgage sized cable bill.

We pick up the HDTV with a small intenna inside. It's not a great signal, but since we just use Amazon Prime anyway, it's not a big deal.

I'm not going to lie. I laughed my ass off at this sentence.

You have seven televisions, and you now might not be able to get cable on every single one of them. Is that really such a terrible thing?

#firstworldmiddleclassproblems

For what it's worth, I watch all my television via an HDMI cable connected to my computer, which pulls up both live stream and past episodes of shows for free. The live stream is rarely in HD, but I don't really need to count a quarterback's nose hairs anyway, and the replay stuff can almost always play in 1080, so it works fine.

And you suckers all pay for cable. ;)

So...did cable skyrocket like he projected?
Saw an article the other day stating that cable rates will skyrocket again next year, and cell phones, due to some law.

More scare tactics?

I shut mine off from May 1 - Sept 1. Missed watching the reds at times, but listened to them on the radio every night. Amazing how much more shit I got done done when the cable was shut off!

It was actually pretty liberating. The first couple of days was a little tough as the natural reaction was to turn on the boobtube when you are home.
Listened to a ton of radio.
May try it again this summer.

What are they gonna say?
Mine doesnt charge a hookup fee since we already had them before so they really dont mind I guess. Imagine they would prefer ya to stay on but that isnt happening. Only thing they wont do though is if they are having some big promotion at the time they didnt allow me to sign up under that.

Well, are you under 2 yr contract? Do you have to re-sign a contract when you sign back up?

No.
No.

I think when I first signed up 4-5 years ago there was a 1 year contract, I think, but after that you can drop and sign when you want. It is our local hometown cable company.

For Reds: You just listen on radio and go to games to catch them? Local stations carry all/most of their games on TV? I know we used to be able to watch them on CBS when I was growing up.

Pretty sure they are all on FSO now. If not all, almost all.
Growing up we were stoked when a ft wayne channel would announce their lineup of the year which was usually 15 or so Cubs games, 7-10 reds games and a few Chisox.
Other than that.....700WLW.
