I wonder if Smithville is trending towards d6 as well. I saw that some of their classes were below 60 students coming up.

Norwayne's biggest challenge is the fact they're playing a soft schedule. The WCAL is probably weaker than it's ever been in history, and so you really need to challenge yourselves in non-conference play. Wellington, CVCA and Ontario aren't going to do it.

enrollments could change heard a few county schools may have asked for waivers for students that do not attend their schools so could see some changes.
if im not mistaken wellington is usually at top of their conference, cvca is top of theirs year in and year out, and not to sure about ontario but they had a winning record last year

Don't expect many, if any appeals to change any numbers. Lots of schools whine but usually there's nothing to support the claim other then they want in a different division

Wow. I have to say that when watching d 5- 6 football, a D1 football prospect usually sticks out, heck they usually stick out on a d1 high school team, but hey, congrats to him

Sounds like his father had something to do with that. No way that kid is even close to d1 talent. You cant be scared to get hit. Sad to see only one kid on rittman that the head coach will promote.

So it is your contention that a DI school with limited scholarships is going to give one to a kid because his dad had something to do with it? You need to get out more. It is also a hell of a reach to think this is the only kid at Rittman that the coach is promoting. Are you privy to how much film the coach sent out on other kids? The article said Akron offered early. That means other kids could get offers later.Buckeyefan34;1438482 wrote:Sounds like his father had something to do with that. This is very true. A D1 school could care less who your dad is. The move surprises me as well, but they aren't just giving out scholarships as favors these days, especially when you're a 1-11 football team.doghouse riley;1438629 wrote:So it is your contention that a DI school with limited scholarships is going to give one to a kid because his dad had something to do with it? Don't know much about the kid but just never Knew he was a standout wr. Saw him play a few games and wasnt impressed.Just heard there were several other players on rittman that were better.
Also the article in today's daily record said bill Dennis informed the paper. Is that the only source they have? And out of all the players in the wcal who was the last player to receive a d1 offer? I couldn't even tell you. The only player who supposedly did has his father as his coach and athletic director. So call me crazy for thinking his father had something to do with it.

I was never a Bill Dennis fan, I thought he did West Holmes a major disservice by plugging his family into positions that were unsuited to their talents. When he surfaced at Rittman, I thought he did the same. Moving his to son to WR last year was a step in the right direction. Congrats to (not sure on his first name) Dennis on the scholarship.
All that being said...I'm shocked by this news.

Congrats to the Dennis kid on his scholarship. People should realize by now that colleges are recruiting people based on their potential value to them. It doesn't matter if he "wouldn't have even started on Norwayne's team." Norwayne people should realize that better than anybody. As far as I know, Harris and Beery will be the only D1 scholarship kids from this era of Bobcat football. I don't think anyone would argue that Beery was the first or second best player on the team these past few years. He just has something that colleges want (speed). Those other great Norwayne players were awesome on the field, but probably couldn't pass the "athlete test" required to earn a D1 scholarship. The Dennis kid from Rittman probably does.

This "Dennis offer" was a big topic of discussion around the fire on Saturday night. The word that is spreading in my area is that Bill Dennis did in fact call in a favor. He is friends with one of the coaches on Akron's staff and the offer has 1 big stipulation. The kid can't accept it. Ha. What I'm hearing is that they offered him as a favor to try and generate some interest from other schools. I know alot of people in coaching and this kind of thing is common. No disrespect to the kid but he is definitely not D1 talent.
As far as Norwayne's team last year, Beery was no where near the best player on that team. The Harris kid will play D1 for sure and I wouldn't be suprised to see Berger on the field playing at Akron within the next 2 years. He can definitely play there.

Yeah, this Dennis situation doesn't pass the smell test. Like he's the first 5'10", 165 pound white kid to come out of the WCAL... If that's what it takes to receive a D1 offer these days then Wayne County is prime recruiting ground.

That's what I am saying regarding Beery. He already has D1 offers and is being courted by several additional D1 schools even though he was not nearly the best player on his high school teams. He just has D1 speed. I have never seen Dennis play. That would be shocking to me if Akron offered him a scholarship as a favor. You aren't going to trick additional D1 schools into offering somebody a scholarship.WCALfootballfan;1438703 wrote:This "Dennis offer" was a big topic of discussion around the fire on Saturday night. Weird things happen in recruiting these days. I can not belive this is a legit offer as I can't imaging that Rittman has many kids who could play Div III much less Div I. Let face facts Coaches can call in favors and that has to be what happend here.

My point exactly. Since when does 20 catches for 200 yards and 5 TDs in a season get you a d1 offer. Kid might run a 4.6 on the track but that doesnt mean that translates into football speed. Completly different kinds of speed. I don't believe he was blowing anyone awayon the football field which makes me think this offer cant be legit.jaco;1438704 wrote:Yeah, this Dennis situation doesn't pass the smell test.
