The most anticipated matchup was Craft against Burke, who has emerged in his sophomore season as a national player-of-the-year candidate. Craft, regarded as the top defender in the conference, proved last year to be among the few players capable of slowing Burke and was out to do the same on Sunday.
Matta noticed this purpose throughout, from Craft’s stoicism during pregame introductions — usually, the coach said, "we may joke around or smile" — to the point guard’s plea during a late timeout.
"He said, ‘Hey guys, stop helping, I can do the job,’" Matta recalled.

Craft may have single-handedly prevented Burke from becoming the runaway NPOTY candidate yesterday. He is as good a defender as there has been in the game over the last four or five years.

Craft has Burke's number for sure. But I don't think one game keeps anyone out of contention.reclegend22;1365793 wrote:Craft may have single-handedly prevented Burke from becoming the runaway NPOTY candidate yesterday. As for the game, I think OSU did what they always do better than Michigan: be physical.

Burke is definitely not out of contention for NPOTY. He is still very much in the running. However, with a huge performance at Ohio State on national television against the best defensive guard in the country, Burke probably would have been considered the prime candidate at that point. So I think that Craft prevented that from happening.WebFire;1365843 wrote:Craft has Burke's number for sure. But I don't think one game keeps anyone out of contention.
Right now, personally, I think it's Doug McDermott, Anthony Bennett and Trey Burke, then Jeff Withey and Mason Plumlee. Burke, being from Michigan, would probably get the nod over McDermott and Bennett, though, if that's how the order shakes out.

10-4. Honestly, I don't think burke will get it. But it's a long season.reclegend22;1365849 wrote:Burke is definitely not out of contention for NPOTY. He is still very much in the running. I love the way Burke plays the game. He rarely forces shots, and plays within' the offense. He could average 25/gm if he wanted to, but he knows what is best for the team.

Oh I know. I just felt like he and Hardaway were forcing too many shots, especially late when they were chucking 3s for no apparent reason.se-alum;1365920 wrote:Well, he is playing against probably the best perimeter defender in the country.

I think OSU is just a tough matchup on the perimeter for UM. Craft, Scott, Smith, and Thompson can switch everything, so it's difficult to get to the paint when they're locked in. Having 4 perimeter guys that are plus defenders is nice, unfortunately it hurts on the offensive end.

I've never understood why Adrien Payne doesn't put up better numbers.

Shannon Scott > Aaron Craft. Doesn't mean they both can't play, but Scott needs to be out there more.
