Oh....I forgot about Wofford and Alabama A & M. While almost all conferences have late season blood baths....one conference was riddled with the aforementioned juggernauts.

With a Southern Cal upset next week, we can all go play bingo while the SEC plays the SEC in another classic snoozer.

Musberger and Herbie implored that they adopt a 9 game schedule ASAP after reading off this list during the Oregon game, lol

Pre-rivalry week in the SEC. They start league play in week 3...other conferences either play 9 league games or start week 4. This isn't breaking news...it's usually how most of them schedule it...

I think it's more that they all went 1-AA than anything else.

But it gets ignored all the time.

Don't bother trying to bring logic in.

B1G teams played 7-8 1-AA teams this year. Plus probably another 10-12 MAC teams. But at least none of them happened in November!

Not many OOC FBS teams available for an open date in November...given they are all playing conference games.

Also, they use it to give a "friend of the program" or in-state school some revenue. I mean Georgia doesn't usually get Georgia Southern by luck...

Change it.
Adopt the rest of the country's OOC schedule, as in the start of the year.
It is a joke.

Keep in mind the MAC had one of their best years in recent memory this year (just ask the bottom half of the B1G that lost to them at least once), instead of lumping them with 1-AA schools

It's the same schedule as many other BCS teams. They just do it in November and not in September. For instance, Florida had 3 SEC wins in September. Some schools hadn't even played their first conference game yet...or were just playing their first that weekend.

3/4 of OSU's ooc sched has losing records. None of Florida's ooc have losing records. Last week in the rankings, UL-L was ranked higher than 5 B1G teams.

Arguing with some on here is pointless. Some are literally too stupid to understand the simple logic in your posts.

The MAC can be good for MAC standards and still a very bad conference overall.

Would it be more fair to point out that the B1G had 9 games against teams that are below .500 in MAC conference play?

The point that's brought up is that this is the second to last week of the season. It's basically a setup to make sure you get a breather before the final game of the season (which is usually your rival).

Big Ten: Ohio State plays Wisconsin on the road the week before their big game against Michigan.

So, instead of 'fighting for your lives' this week, the SEC gets a breather and others get beat playing tough games (remember the whole, if you lose, lose early) mantra, and you'll know why the SEC schedules the way they do. Then you get the self-righteous circle-jerk that beating an SEC team is the hardest thing in the world to do, that an SEC team beating an SEC team suddenly means their non-conf games (and when they're schedules) means absolutely nothing. So, you have no way of judging that 11-1 SEC team compared to an 11-1 non-SEC team because the conferences tends to avoid playing anyone else now. Especially near the end of the season when it matters.

OSU has played one currently ranked team all year while SEC teams have played an average of 4 or 5 ranked teams. /thread

My problem with the whole system is the way teams are not punished for losing and ugly wins. It's not just the SEC. Florida should've dropped after their miracle win against LaLa. ND should've dropped after their win against Pitt. LSU wins ugly most of the time without penalty.

OSU dropped three times this year following wins or bye.

Logic also dictates that they (i) get more or less a bye week right before the end of the year, and (ii) since end of the year losses tend to count more in polls than beginning of the year losses, it is a HUGH benefit for the SEC. It isn't stupid to recognize this.

Which are against other SEC teams, who are ranked due to the inflated opinion of the voters towards the SEC. ;)

Exactly. The SEC moguls aren't stupid. They save their cupcake wins for the END of the season rather than the beginning.

Plus there's the added benefit that bye weeks aren't necessarily a good thing. The season-ending cupcake games are less than a game and more than a practice going into the final week.

That's brilliant IMHO.

"Exactly. The SEC moguls aren't stupid. They save their cupcake wins for the END of the season rather than the beginning. "

Exactly, there is a reason the SEC does this - and this IS the reason. As long as the NCAA allows it - sure they can do it, but even the biggest SEC fanboy has to recognize that this is very beneficial for them, and no other conference seems to do this. I wouldn't mind the NCAA making a rule that all BCS conferences must schedule other BCS conference games (this would preserve SC-Clemson and UGA-GT rivalry) games past week 8 or so...or pick another week, but not the game before the end of the season.

-edit,

"But at least none of them happened in November!"

This is probably the best solution - if you want the benefit of a guaranteed BCS berth by winning your conference, you must schedule BCS conference games after October 31. Not sure why anyone in the SEC could complain about that.

So next week you B1G homers will start a thread about Uga playing GaTech, USCe playing Clemson, Florida playing F$U, etc.?

Apparently you haven't read all of this thread, at least my posts. I have no problem with any of those games. Apparently nor do some others, but scheduling cupcakes at that time of the season is taking advantage of lax rules - just like over signing which many SEC teams were known to do. If the NCAA allows it, certainly they can do it, but IMO the NCAA shouldn't allow it. The BCS conference teams get enough leeway.
