Here is the D4 Garfield Heights Bracket. Dogs are the #3 seed. Mapleton is up first. Then Fairport.

Good luck to the Bulldogs, my seeding picks were not to far off, surprised Clearview was seeded that high?

Can't see the bulldogs losing to mapleton. Anyone know anything about fairport?

From what I've heard they are the 4 seed. They obviously wanted no part of being on the VASJ side. No clue what their record is. Im sure it won't be a cakewalk though.

VASJ is 15-2 and beat Dalton 95-46 earlier this year:dhs22p;1387114 wrote:From what I've heard they are the 4 seed. They obviously wanted no part of being on the VASJ side. No clue what their record is. Im sure it won't be a cakewalk though.

Yup they soundly beat us. Oh I was talking about Fairport. I have no idea what their record is.thePITman;1387368 wrote:VASJ is 15-2 and beat Dalton 95-46 earlier this year:

Um, yea we know about vasj. I. Am trying to find out about fairport. If we get past them, Richmond heights sits there in the district semis, also ranked in the top 10. Vasj is a long way off

By the way, the schedule at the Garfield heights district leaves a lot to be desired. When it was at strongsville, you played either tues/fri or wed/sat at 6 or 7:30. At GH, the sectional semis are monday at 5:30, finals are Wednesday at 5:30, district semis the following Tuesday at 5:30 as well. Not real easy to get to, especially from an hour away.

Thats a nice summary, Pit. Thanks for your efforts. I agree with much of what you wrote and I wasn't expecting you to pick Norwayne. I look at the bracket a little differently. I think the top half, while not necessarily stronger, is a lttle scarier because of the unknown. We don't know much about Oberlin and Elyria Catholic, except that they both seem pretty good and have some talent and athleticism. It's getting hard to ignore the fact that Orrville wins almost every year after coming in with a modest record. Being a Norwayne fan, I feel better about possibly facing only one of those teams and only potentially in the final. It's not that facing teams like Chippewa, Smithville and Waynedale will be easier by any stretch, but at least they are a known entity.
predictions:
Favorites (semis): Orrville, Elyria Catholic, Waynedale, Norwayne
Sleepers: Oberlin, Northwestern, Smithville
Final pick: Orrville vs. Norwayne (same as I picked last year)
2nd choice: Elyria Catholic vs. Smithville

I wasn't thinking I'd pick Norwayne, either. But I think Davis and Prentiss can do well against Waynedale in the size match-up I mentioned, and their guards can do well against Smithville if the Smithies try to get out and run. Either way, I think it plays well into Norwayne's hands. I just heard back from Elyria Catholic's coach and have added some more comments, including that they are led by 5 seniors as well as strong soph's and juniors.
In the end, the previews were just about that - previewing. I threw on some predictions, too, to get the talk started. I agree with you about Orrville still being dangerous. For sure.

My gut tells me that a WCAL team will NOT win this district. I will take Oberlin, EC, or Orrville..

Waynedale beat Norwayne in OT by 1. Waynedale hit a FT with 2.3 left. Norwayne had a 4' shot fall short at the buzzer. Sounds like a heck of a game!

Dalton wraps up league play and wins the wcl by a comfortable margin. Congratulations to them! Callendar single handedly kept the smithies in the game with some excellent shooting. Bulldogs played well across the board. Good luck to wcl teams in the tournament

I'll just be picking the 1st rounds game. I think the final 8 will look like:
Oberlin vs Orrville
Wellington vs Elyria Catholic
Waynedale vs Smithville
Clearview vs Norwayne
Oberlin vs Orrville
Wellington vs Elyria Catholic
Waynedale vs Smithville
Clearview vs Norwayne

You could be right, but I'll go local and take Northwestern over Wellington and Chippewa over Clearview. Agree with your other picks. The Artist Formerly Known As Mr. Russell;1394686 wrote:I'll just be picking the 1st rounds game. I think the final 8 will look like:

#7 seed Orrville pounded #14 seed Black River last night, up 15 after the 1st quarter, led by 31 after 3, and won 53-32. Black River now has 43 straight losses. Orrville will play #2 seed Oberiln.
Northwestern and Wellington (#10 and #11 seeds respectively) had a physical battle. Northwestern led from start to finish, I believe, but Wellington would make a run every now and then to keep it close, coming within 2 points with under a minute left in the 4th before the Huskies won 79-75. Northwestern advances to play the winner of #4 Elyria Catholic and #12 Hillsdale.

Everyone ran from vasj in the Garfield heights district, so the bulldogs (3 seed) have a tough sectional final Wednesday against the 4 seed, fairport. Mapleton did not give much resistance, fairport will

Of the 6 teams eliminated, none were from the county. (although Hillsdale is in the WCAL and Loudonville is also local).
Of the 8 teams remaining, 5 WCAL schools are left plus Orrville. Only Elyria Catholic and Oberlin remain as "outsiders."
If Orrville and Northwestern can win on Friday... all Wayne County semi-finals
