The dispatch today listed how the B1G determines tie breakers
TIEBREAKERS

Two-team tie

1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular-season.
2. Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings (or in the case of a tie for the championship, the next highest position in the regular-season standings), continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
a) When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.
b) When comparing records against a single team or group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0).

3. Won-loss percentage of all Division I opponents.
4. Coin toss conducted by the commissioner or designee.

Multiple-team tie

1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular-season.
a) When comparing records against the tied teams, the team with the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0).
b) After the top team among the tied teams is determined, the second team is ranked by its record among the original tied teams, not the head-to-head record vs. the remaining team(s).
2. If the remaining teams are still tied, each tied team's record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
a) When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.
b) When comparing records against a single team or group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0).
3. Won-loss percentage of Division I opponents.
4. Coin toss conducted by commissioner or designee.

Thats only for seeding in th BTT though. The B1G recognizes everyone as a co-champ if they tie. Even if the one team is 2-0 against the other team, etc.

The dilemma:

1. Ohio State gets a top 4 seed in the B1G tournament: that's best for them!

2. Ohio State gets the #5 seed: that's an extra day of vacation for me in order to watch them and party with friends, since the 5-12 game is supposed to be early/mid-afternoon or so on Thursday.

It's a dilemma because I'm really damn selfish and like the alternatives that give me the most personal pleasure!

You're right. I didn't mean to imply that there wouldn't be B1G co-champs. I just wondered how they would do it if there was a 3 or 4 way tie and thought the article was interesting.

Iowa gets one they had to get, beating Illinois. Still a lot of work for them to make the tourney, but it's still feasible

Yeah. I didn't realize when I was doing my "on the bubble or not" deal about them last week, just how poor their RPI and SoS were. That had me a bit surprised seeing the 100+ SoS, so yeah. They'll have to win their last game and probably get two in the B1G tournament to have a real shot. And who knows who their second-round game will be against, as there could wind up being a 4-way tie with Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State and whoever wins the Mich St.-Wisconsin game for the top four seeds.

I think they have to win 2 in the BTT to be in the conversation, but to really have a good shot they'd probably have to make the BTT finals. That would put them around 50th in RPI and give them (likely) 5 top-50 wins, which would probably be good enough to beat other current bubble teams. Anything short of that and they're a long shot IMO.

This bodes well for Michigan, OSU and the rest that are hoping for a UM victory and a share of the B1G title. Indiana has already celebrated their share of the crown, so hopefully they won't play inspired ball.

This was at Assembly Hall last night. Not sure exactly when they did it. Assuming sometime pre-game.

Post game, after the SR speeches and after the trophy presentation. I cant figure out why everyone is all up in arms about everything. IU did the same stuff in 2002 and for their entire existence lol. Always have SR speeches after the last home game, trophy is always at the place when a team can or has clinched (I think it will be at Michigan Sunday...thats the only other game where a result will directly effect who wins), and they always cut down the nets after their final home game of a title winning season.

I'm not up in arms. I just said that I hope they don't play inspired since they don't seem to have much to play for. They've got their trophy, and their nets cut. Good time for Michigan to have the mental edge.

Yeah, i was wondering about the grief they were getting on M and M this AM. I couldnt remember what they did in the past in regards to the B10 champions but am well aware of the SR night ceremonies. Was always my fav game of the year to watch when the local affiliates would show it.

and I agree. It was all set up before the game and they just went through with it.

I thinkg it would have been better suited if Crean announced that they werent going to do it because of their performance in the game. The SR night stuff..yeah.....but to do all the B10 champ stuff I think maybe after the loss the coach could have gotten the attention of the team if he nixed some of it

It would be pretty fitting for UM to beat IU and have a 4-way shared B1G title.

I agree. IU is slumping...recent losses to Minny and OSU, and a lacksuter win vs Iowa.

Have no problem whatsoever with having the senior night ceremony after the game, and maybe even the trophy presentation (which could very well be shared), but cutting down the nets? Just not a fan of it, that's all.

SR night is a great tradition at IU. SO much so the local affiliate would always stay with the post game and show it on TV.

I agree..If I was crean I woulda told them and the crowd how they wont be doing it since they lost.

Not saying you really. But Mike and Mike and a bunch of others were. I have a real problem when people "lay issue" to stuff without doing research. Should IU stop 100 years of tradition with their basketball team?? I mean, seriously...Do the research on how things are done at places before you say its dumb or in bad taste or whatever. Its tradition, nothing more, nothing less.

I dont disagree completely. But they always cut down the nets the first home game after they clinch. I think they actually clinched on a road game before and cut down the nets after the first home game the next year (though that is urban legend in Bloomington lol).

Back in the day IU wouldnt have been playing a 9pm weeknight game. BK stood up to ESPN and wouldnt allow it because it was too late for the student athletes so they always got the 7pm start

I think the net cutting was kinda strange, but I don't have a problem with any of the rest of it.
