And I would agree with this. No bowl game and no B1G championship this season. So every game this season - especially big games like Nebraska - should be seen as an opportunity to strut the stuff.Big Gain;1289207 wrote:You forget, Urban said he would try to score 100 points every game this year.....can't play in the B1G Title game, can't go to a Bowl game.
If I were in Meyer's shoes, I'd do the very same thing.

I agree 100 percent. I said earlier that Braxton threw worse than Pryor but ill admit I was wrong. Miller has pretty damn good mechanics he just needs to find that consistantcy. He is one of the best running qb's I have ever seen though

They were around the 20 yard line, running a run play with a backup runningback acting as a starter due to injury. Nebraska had 2 timeouts and its just what you do to encourage them to let the clock out. I think "running it up" involves a pass play or some sort of trickery.
What happens when a team doesn't have enough pride to try to stop a simple run to stop an even further pummeling is not the fault of the offense in this case.

OSU Weather Report - Partly Cloudy Klein had his best day ever as a Buckeye with 3 solos (all in 4th Qtr) and 3 assts and 1 TFL. Pedestrian numbers for a MLB but for all you PCK nut huggers that think I'm unfair to a little spoiled college kid...I admit he improved last night.

Just a fun statistic
Miller had 200 positive rushing yards
The running backs had 0 negative plays

All the Fickell hate is funny. How can you question him as a DC when it's been said he's been calling the defensive plays for the last 5 seasons. The Ohio State lb's are just below average for OSU this year. Right now none of them are NFL caliber or size. These guys are 20-25 lbs smaller then guys like hawk and carpenter.

I think the defense has improved a ton so far this season. Last week the DB's were put on islands to sell out against the run and it obviously worked.sportchampps;1289283 wrote:All the Fickell hate is funny. This week they did what they had to do against an offense that hasn't been held under 400 yards all season and came in averaging 44 points per game.

I still didn't see much of an improvement. Nebraska had 437 yards, 21 first downs, and scored 38 offensive points and probably could have had more had it not been for 4 turnovers. OSU got this win from poor mistakes from Martinez which handed them 2 TDs and a special teams TD.LJ;1289289 wrote:I think the defense has improved a ton so far this season. Nebraska's averages on offense have come against defenses like Southern Miss, UCLA, Idaho State, and Arkansas State.

All 4 of those turnovers were forced. You know, caused by the defense.the_system;1289300 wrote:I still didn't see much of an improvement. I guess by your estimation OSU must not be good, but that means that Nebraska REALLY sucks.

Ohio State scored in all three phases of the game. That's not luck, that's domination.

If by better you mean the players play smarter and don't turn the ball over then I agree. If you mean that they are just flat out better offensively or defensively I couldn't tell.SportsAndLady;1289303 wrote:OSU got this win because they're simply better than Nebraska..period

He serves a purpose. He's such a big guy he'll get 3-4 every time up the middle. Miller is the explosive back for this team, Hyde keeps em honest well.Mulva;1289028 wrote:Hyde is a very very average running back. He's good at usually getting positive yards, but in 55 carries his season high is 16 yards. Definitely a spot that could stand to be upgraded.
Btw best OSU game I've ever attended, that crowd and atmosphere was unbelievable. Wasn't this loud at the 2002 UM game

Only having 1 negative play from scrimmage on the season is not "very very average"

ricola;1289248 wrote:Some thoughts about tOSU defense: Still a bunch of missed/poor tackling. It almost cost them at MSU, looked bad initially last night until the offense exploded and made it a non-issue. But can't help but think sooner or later it's going to cost them. Granted, we are still a work in progress, and need to get more stud players on both sides of the ball. But this defense has some very good players. how much of this can be hung on Fickel? he showed last year he certainly wasn't ready to be a big time program's HC. Not sure he's a legit DC either. Gotta think there was some provision for keeping him on as DC after last year when it was apparent he was not going to have the job for more than a year. Also, gotta think Urban probably would have brought his hand-picked DC along with him, just as he named all the other asst coaches he hired, and not likely Fickel would have been that guy had it not benn "part of the arrangement" to hire Urban. To me, poor tackling is a coaching problem. If no improvement as time goes on (unsure how much time) could Fickel be replaced?
And on a separate note, how and why is Gene Smith still here as AD????

Very impressed with the Buckeyes last night. Not really a fan of giving up 38 points, but the team as whole did better than I expected offensively and defensiviely (forcing turnovers, not letting Burkhead run all over us). Glad Martinez returned to his shitty, turning the ball over ways.
On the Hyde discussion...Im really not a fan of him. He never makes anybody miss, or runs anybody over. Very average, IMO. I'd prefer Smith over him if he could actually hold onto the ball. You saw what he did on that TD run last night.
