I can't be this harsh on a UK guy but I don't completely disagree. I remembers seeing the YouTube video (I think I've posted it here before) about Wall his rookie year when he discussed his diet and lifestyle. You get the vibe from him that he really doesn't have that "it" factor that it takes to maximize your talent.

He's too talented to not hang around in the NBA for 15 years. He'll probably be a 15-20 PPG guy, top 10 in assists, etc...but never elite. He should rebound better than he does and should be an All-NBA caliber defender with his size. He's not. Unfortunately.

Wall should probably be in contention with Kyrie as the nest big PG. But it isnt even close. Wall has the skills and physical attributes to be absolutely great, but he isnt.

Agree, and that's why I think something is missing. I don't think the guy is that motivated to be great. It's funny because he had a reputation of being a hard worker in high school and college.

I can't say if I got paid I'd be a ton different. To each his own.

The video was alright. I did laugh that apparently someone has a pedo bear costume (the head).

But the Lakers are essentially the Yankees of the NBA. Even when they aren't doing well they will dominate the headlines.

That's one pro athlete who won't be going broke. Good for his dad.

Gotta be a little tough if he doesn't have a debit card or something with just $300 a week and hanging out NBA style at all.

I think that's the point.

There is a culture in American professional sports for athletes to spend like they'll be earning this kind of money for the rest of their working life (a normal retirement age of 65) instead of planning ahead for the future. That's why we hear about these former stars or just regular players filing for bankruptcy shortly after their career is over.

Yeah I know but is a $1,000 a week spending going to break the bank? Dad played long enough to be pretty well off unless he spent it too much.

To me there is a happy medium. I'm all for someone else being in charge of his money but also him having plenty to enjoy the fact that he's a millionaire.....and should have several years in the league, and if he doesn't last very long for whatever reason.....cutting him off a lot now isn't going to make a big difference.

He had a run in in college with marijuana. Maybe dad thinks he will blow all his money on weed and hookers?

Yeah...good point. At some point you have to trust your kid...but you're also always their parent.

Klay Thompson is a rookie? News to me.

Is it seriously that hard to get simple facts straight?

Stupid to have your parents control your money. $300 a week? Hell I spend more than that in a week.

From my understanding the $300 is for random things, not his rent, clothes. From the article it is impossible to tell if food is included in that or if that is separate.

He's in charge of the money in the sense that any time he wants he could have the checks written in his name instead and kick out his parents. But I see nothing wrong with having your parents be your financial adviser if they are responsible. It's better than a lot of athletes who give that job to their friends and or siblings who have no more experience planning financial matters than they do. At least his dad lived as a professional athlete before and knows how the money situation plays out.

Also, why not be frugal? What's bad about having extra money to put into investment opportunities or set up a trust for his kids if and when he has a family. Just because a person is a professional athlete or just rich in general, that doesn't mean they have to live an extravagant lifestyle.

The guy is making $2.2M this year and is only spending $3,000 a month on rent and $1,200 a month on food. He could quintuple is monthly spending and still be banking about 2M a year(assuming no taxes, since Republicans protect the wealthy from paying taxes).

Did he change it to say "the winner gets $1 million".....I thought he went on to say that.

I love the gesture though, even though it's like me saying I'd give him $10 to do it.

Just got to 7 on a nice oop.

He will finish with close to 20.
