This.

Hear more about the Lakers and if theyll make the 8 spot than you do about the Thunder/Nuggets/Spurs combined

Not for at least a week or two. For example, every 8 minutes this morning on SC they had a segment about the Kobe.

Another reason why espn is unwatchable.

Also, this year's draft sucks balls, so I could care less about getting the Lakers mid first round pick

The Lakers were NOT going to be a factor in the playoffs. I would agree that this would be depressing if the Lakers were actually a team with a chance to make the finals this year just so the Kobe/LeBron match would finally happen. But this team is mediocre at best.

They have been playing much better lately. Disappointing when you can't see some of the best players play. I mean who doesn't want to watch kobe in the playoffs.

And more importantly who doesn't want yo watch Kobe next year...

Couldn't care less about Kobe. He's a shell of his former self and LA would have gotten swept in the first round. That wouldn't be disappointing to miss.

To me, I'd call it depressing in the context that it could be, for all intents and purposes, the end of one of our era's top players. I mean, I'm sure he'll make a comeback, but with his age and the wear on his body, there's no way of knowing how good he'll be when he returns. But going out with an injury like that sucks.

As far as this year in a bubble goes, it's no biggie to me. The Lakers are an injury-riddled team that was hoping to hold on to the eighth seed and likely get waxed in the first round by a team (Okie or SA) that is simply superior to them in virtually every way imaginable. But because they're the Lakers (SHOWTIME) with Kobe, they were bigger news than most any other team. Now, whether they make the playoffs or not, they'll fade into the background, like you'd expect a barely over .500 team loaded with past-their-prime players and a mediocre-at-best coach to do in crunch time.

Yeah, one of the bloggers for the Warriors said "if this doesn't bother you, then you don't love basketball."

We don't get another first rounder I thought. I thought we swaped LA picks with the Miami pick we got thus a higher 1st round. Anyone confirm?

Looks like Melo wins the scoring title as Durant sits out.

Utah losing late in Memphis will mean the Lakers are in the Playoffs no matter their result tonight.

It also means that Footwedge is wrong. Again.

Do they get the 7 seed with a win or are they locked into 8?

Give the guy credit. He was sooooooooo close.

But seriously, he was right on the Lakers issues. He just underestimated the fact that they still had great players and that would be enough.

A win gets them the 7.
