Looks to hit New Orleans on the anniversary of Katrina. Weather people saying this storm is only going to pick up strength, be one of the worse ever.

What ya think? Will it be a let down of a storm or end up being impressive?

I'll put the over/under at 100 deaths.

Kind of surprised with the weather we've had there have been more (any) big, bad storms. Just an inconvenient fact, ehhh Al Gore?

It's only projected to get to about ~95 MPH winds at landfall. It's no Katrina, but it'll still flood the shit out of some areas and probably beat up on some of the shittier built stuff that Katrina didn't finish off.

hmm. Prob' will be a let down, mostly rain and lvl 1 hurricane at best winds......
Weather dude I just heard mentioned it may build strength in the warmer waters before New Orleans.
I've also heard someone say a cold front may weaken it some, so who the hell knows.

I saw a similar 'roll' cloud to that a long time ago when Ohio U was playing in The Swamp. First time I'd ever seen anything like it and it was F'in scary. I had my 7 yr old daughter in the 3rd row of the south end zone, we quickly moved up to the sheltered part of the stadium and the game was delayed for about an hour. We watched other games on tv by the concession. My cousin worked for OU sports and they had no idea in the press box what was coming behind them.

There is an army of electric utility trucks from the entire USA staged at Daytona Speedway ready to go. 4300 workers, 2000 trucks. Local news interviewed a guy from Akron. These guys are leaving pregnant wives and childrens birthdays to help out. Looks like most of them will turn around and head toward the bayou.

My brother flew to San Juan this morning out of Atlanta. He said they told them they were getting a free roller coaster ride today. He said people were actually screaming throughout the flight it was so bad.

Oil drilling platforms in the gulf are closed, so production is down and that is an excuse to jack up the price of gas even more.

Big storm, but all I can think about is this question: "They pick a new name for these each time, and somehow they haven't used 'Isaac' yet?"

What was the last "I" name? Irene? Not sure if I can remember another "I."

F*ck that. Bad enough taunting gravity in good weather.....

Word. Plus the holiday weekend, even more reason to add a few more pennies. Sticking to cruisin' slow on the back roads.

They use the names more than once. I was at Holden Beach when TS Ernesto hit about 10 years ago, there was another TS Ernesto this year.

Latest advisory has it taking New Orleans head on, but only as a strong Category 1 (about 90mph) at landfall.

If we used "Ivan" or "Igor" before "Isaac," that would seem like we're reaching before we have to.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. I thought we always tried to come up with a different name to distinguish between them.

There are 6 name lists used on rotation in the Atlantic, so, names cycle back around every 6 years. New names only come about when they retire the name of a storm that had a significant impact on land somewhere.
