Struthers brings in a whole entire new system this season with Kuntz taking over the helm for the cats. Struthers has looked pretty good in scrimmages against Streetsboro and Kent Roosevelt granted they are scrimmages. Muntean returns at Qb with Kimbrough and Stewart to be the main play makers on offense.
Defensively they seem to have gotten better with their run defense, also with the addition of Kimbrough at the FS position it should help a lot. Campbell will have speed as usual with also a returning QB that had flashes of being very good especially the girard game last season. This game is one of the biggest rivalries in all NE ohio with struthers winning last season 22-3 after dropping the last 2 before last year.

Were all gonna have our biases and pick our boys like we should.

But realistically, Campbell SHOULD win because I just don't see the Cats being completely comfortable in the new system in week 1, but Campbell SHOULD have won last year too.

Truthfully, records and talent matter nothing in this game and whoever has the most heart and guts will walk away with the trophy.

I don't see the Devils having problems putting points on the board, they just need to stop the Cats from doing the same.

Don't predict this game based on last years leadership.

On paper last year, Campbell should've killed us. I agree, it will be who plays with more intensity that should come out on top. I also agree that with a new system, there will be growing pains. We'll see how quickly they adjust.

New system is a lot easier for the players then last season, remember last year they beat a good Jefferson team 27-7 under a new system. I will agree Campbell was more talented last season but I wouldn't go with that this season, Struthers returns basically everything from last year that was revelant, experience week 1 I say puts Struthers over the edge, game will be won in the last 5 minutes of the game IMO. Should be in the 80's next Thursday it says

The sysetm is fairly simple. and if you're an experienced player, it only comes easier to you. They seem to have the system down for the most part. What Struthers brings to the table that Campbell lacks is : Heart, Motivation, and pride. These kids will not let the trophy go. You can count on that. As the cats are very talented this year, with the o line being a big "?" held their own vs Kent Roosevelt.. we'll see how campbell does vs Niles... an average team.

It will be how good STruthers defense is. Campbell is loaded on offence. I'm hoping some says not really. I promise you they are loaded more then what people give them credit for! cause they all think without Ja'les we are doomed. LOL I am looking at this Campbell teams offence as a backfield if coached right can destroy defenses. But then again if there is no intensity then why bother even playing. Just don't show up and give the game away. Campbells defense is good from what i am hearing. And struthers has a ton of returning players from last year. i don't care who says what. I learned my lesson last year. But if any indication at all Campbell could wipe the ground with any team they come up against. Ugh i just wish we could teach intensity to our players. If that's all we are lacking then that's the downfall. If we show up with it and every game like last year against Girard we can win all the games this year. LOL hell i don't know who to pick. Go Campbell.

One last thing. I have been told there is a player that can image Patton on the team. Who will get behind Reyes this year. I don't see it being just one guy. If its what i hope for there could be a two headed monster in the backfield this year.

The kid from Mooney ive been told is a very very hard runner as a sophmore is going to be playing varsity, might be one of the really good ones by time its all said and done. Kent Roosevelt has the best QB struthers will see all season and there is no doubt about that and they did a very good job on him yesterday in the scrimmage. Nearly a week away!

i wouldnt say niles is an average team in the sense compared to what campbell will see in the season. they return alot and lost alot of tight games. i think its a good warm up for a d5 team. they are absolutely huge. ive seen both teams play and right now i think struthers has the edge. i just felt like they want it more. i feel like they bring back the same team from last year with more experience. ill wait to give me final prediction until after i see the devils tomorrow, but until a great deal of fire and intensity from the devils then i think struthers has the edge.

Good assessment, I think with the team Struthers had last year this coach uses them in the best way to make them succeed, for instance using kimbrough at safety and an all around athlete moving him around on offense, for the simple fact Muntean is a lot better at the QB position and now kimbrough doesn't have to think as much because everyone from Struthers knows he doesn't have it all up there to be a QB

Good assessment. Had to laugh at your comment: 'great deal of fire', coming a "Red Devil". I would hope so. LOL!

8 Days left til this classic match-up.

Speaking of devils, fires and infernos, try reading some of the conversations about Penn State on ESPN. Judging by many of the comments there on Joe Pa, you would think he now is a Campbell fan; what with his current, supposed location. L O L ****

I'm coming out from cali for games against Field and Brookfield. I do hate to miss the Campbell game, though. In its 'heyday', one of the best rivalries in the entire Mahoning valley.

Brookfield is stacked this year, won't be disappointed with that game and field isn't too bad either.

I'm glad to be seeing a team that has some talent, experience and heart. Those are two good games to see this year.

Are there any web broadcasts for the Campbell game?

Great, thanks! I'll try to listen to whatever I can find. I would love to hear that Struthers-Campbell was covered by one of the local stations. You would think somebody would broadcast it.

I don't know if i would say that they return EVERYTHING that is relevant from last years team. Last years class graduated 5 3-year starters and all 5 earned AAC honors, including one who earned all NE OHIO honors. Technically they've lost many RELEVANT players.

Kimbrough is a bigger addition to the defense then any of the players they lost. The return the most important players on their offense from a year ago, the recievers last year were good but not irreplaceable. They have more speed on the offense this season then last season the one lineman needs replaced but the other got kicked off the team and wasn't there the campbell game. The returing starters all got better from a year ago, bigger and stronger. Last years team came to play that campbell game when their backs were against the wall and showed up while campbells did not. From watching both scrimmages ive seen something in struthers that i havent seen in 5 years and thats tackling, and gang tackling at that. The secondary gave up so many big plays last season with missed tackles and blown coverage. I will guess you played last season and got a little upset about the comments about last years team not being as talented, but sometimes people need to buck up and face reality and get behind our kids rather then talk them down, be proud that if you once played you helped the younger classes get better and helped them prepare for their junior and senior seasons. You would think some people would want their alma mater to succeed rather then fail.

Great point. I assume you're referring to Duchek, Kunzer, Shaffer, Walker, and Malone.

Only thing is... just 3 of those 5 ever received All AAC honors... with Kunzer and Malone being the odd men out. Kunzer was a good complimentary role player, better on D than O. He was more heart and guts than anything else. Also, Malone didn't start until his SR year. Shaffer received All AAC honors, and I think honorable mention All NEO Inland, his JR year. He got kicked off the team last year though, and I doubt his presence will be missed in the locker room. They already know how to play without him. Duchek was All AAC, and 2nd team All NEO Inland. His speed and ball skills were nothing phenominal... he just made plays out of sheer determination and want to. Wess can take his place at CB, and do just fine. He plays with the same kind of fire. Walker was an absolute warrior, and he'll be the toughest one to replace.

Your point is well taken. I agree with you. They do lose some very relevant pieces... to last year's team. The current Juniors and Seniors made it a point to help send those guys out the right way though... and they did just that by knocking Campbell out of the playoffs last year, and bringing the trophy back to Struthers.

They have 12 Seniors this year, and 21 returning letter winners. They'll survive. New Coaching staff, new system, new conference alignment... I still look for the Cats to improve. By new, I also mean a lot better.

I won't drop any names, but there's a couple of potential All State players starting on defense.

No where in my statement was I talking down on anybody first off. Second off all I was doing was making a point that last years senior class was relevant. They also went 5-5 which was the best showing in a while. Noones talking down on anyone here bud. Go cats.

Record doesn't really say much knowing the schedule the last couple years was so weak, The seniors last year will be missed more for leadership then anything else, but i think they have what it takes to right the ship, Kuntz knows what he is doing and his coaching staff he has put together is by far the best coaching staff struthers has seen post zetts era. With that being said Go Cats

whether anyone in campbell wants to admit it, i think this game off the get has huge playoff implications. if they win i see 2 losses on their schedule. if they can prove they can beat a good struthers team i think itll propel them to a playoff spot and possible home game. if not...then i see 6-4 or maybe 7-3 without a playoff spot and a chance at a conference ship. we will find out alot from the scrimmage today. im expecting niles and struthers to similar in some key ways that will help next week. if i dont see any fire or heart im going to be disappointed

I swear it ooozzes with confidence from this forum. I'm glad that it does for once. But just remember guys this is Campbell and Struthers. So nobody should be over confident. Like i said we should have won last year. and it was not for the lack of talent... It was cause we didn't even try to win. some wanted to just get the season over and go back to the street and play with there friends. This is not the same Campbell team as last year up and down. I know we lacked the fearlessness at the scrimmage. But until game day and think we or you got this game is making me laugh. I don't know who will win. I want Campbell to win in the worst way. this is the biggest game of the season already. Who ever wins takes a trip to the playoffs in my opinion.

Maybe if CMHS gets the win they'll be playoff bound.... But if Struthers wins they have a long road with much better teams on it.
