What?! Did you not watch her debacle in the 2011 World Cup? No reason why we shouldn't have walked away with the trophy there. We should've lost to Brazil and did lose to Japan. The team bailed her out. Pia failed to make ANY changes during both games to account for the tired legs, lack of technical ability (compared to the opponents), and definite playing with the backs against the wall.

Heck, one could say the same for this game. With 4 minutes left in the first half, why not play some possession to get out of the first half with a lead? Nope...instead they try to push forward and actually give up some tricky positions -- including a free kick from 30-35 out for the final play of the first half.

As one of the announcers said, when I was watching online, you put a Wambach or Morgan on Japan...no doubt about it they are the team to beat. No team has really matched up with our size and speed. That's the "American way" to beat teams. Granted, we have come A LONG way in the technical ability of our players.

Carli Lloyd is my player of the game. No doubt about it. That second goal was huge.

Yeah, a coach would never have anything to do with a team's "never give up mentality." The players definitely bailed her out. /sarcasm

Pia has nothing to do with that mentality. That mentality has been around for YEARS. It was there for DiCicco. It was there for Greg Ryan (who was a joke). Why would it be any different for Pia? Actually, that is one of the identifiers of a US soccer player -- which was identified back in 2001 by over 500 "soccer people." I'll get that cited, if you want.

Ask any international soccer coaches, they'll tell you two things about American soccer players: 1) they work hard; 2) they never give up.

Boy did Rampone ever really screw that one up! WOW! If that ball was shot on the ground, it's probably a goal. She left it up and didn't hit it with much pace. Solo made the save, not so sure she would've if the ball was on the ground. Rampone should be buying Solo a steak or a couple of rounds...

Did that article only have identifiers of US soccer players, or other nationalities? I think that would be an interesting read if it had the latter, just wondering.

It was just of US soccer players. Unfortunately, but I think other nationalities can be identified pretty easily as well. You know you'll have technical players from the Netherlands; direct players in England; creative players in South America; and so on and so forth.

But, definitely agree that the identifiers would be interesting beyond the top 1 or 2 for each nationality.
