Anyone else do it? A local CrossFit gym offered a groupon last week. For two months of classes, up to 3 classes a week, I was able to get it for $39 (after $10 groupon referral bucks discount). Had the first class last night and I feel absolutely pitiful. My abs feel like they are trying to detach themselves from my body and run away. My legs are still rubbery. But I enjoyed the workout and it will only get easier. I didn't realize how shitty of shape I had let myself get in.

I've done a few sessions and I enjoyed the workout, but it wasn't for me. I'm not a fan of getting "coached" to work out.

Now that it's gotten popular crossfit dumbfucks are taking over my normal gym...it's becoming an annoyance.

I'd like to try it - but it's so damn expensive. Some days I'll do crossfit type workouts in my backyard with my dumbbells. Super set lifting with my sledgehammer and tire.

I've done it and have mixed feelings. My sister and her husband have beer doing it for a couple years and she got certified and just opened her own gym. I used to work out 5 days a week and was in good shape but the past few years have been lazy as shit so when I went I was sore as hell the next few days. I see it as extreme cardio. It no doubt gives you a good workout, but they rag on regular gyms a lot which I disagree with. For the price (over $100 a month) you're not going to get better results if you eat right and bust your but in a regular gym (Globo Gym as they call them). And I think some of the exercises they do are strange and use bad form which won't result in as good gains as most people would be doing in a regular gym.


tl;dr Good workout but for the money I prefer a regular gym

Perfect example are those god awful "pull ups" shown in that gif. After my sister did a set for me I wanted to ask her when she was actually going to start.

Depends on what your goals are. Long term results really depend on your instructors. All crossfit gyms should have classes for different levels of fitness and classes varying from light lifting at a high rep and rate to a higher level group who will be doing more heavy lifting.

These gyms rarely exsist therefore most crossfit gyms are not worth it. Because they will treat you the same if it's your first day or you've been there for a year.

Depends on what parts of Crossfit we're talking about. A lot of the stuff is terrible (like the kipping pullups shown in that gif) and they have really lax standards for certifying their coaches/trainers so it can be really hit or miss in that regard.

And now here comes the "but I do crossfit/I know someone who does and they're in ridiculous shape". Well yeah sure, but that doesn't make Crossfit a good way to maximize their gains or fitness level.

If you enjoy Crossfit and will do it then by all means go especially in the beginning when you're just getting back into shape and such. But if eventually you'd like to actually work better you may be smart to get a personal trainer with some of the more legitimate certifications (ACSM, CSCS, etc).

/Crossfit rant

TL;DR: If anyone tries to tell you the kipping pullups are good you really need to punch them straight in the dick.

Also the guy in the GIF with the rings has atrocious form. Just terrible.

Our instructor was pretty good. He broke our class out in to multiple groups based on how many classes the people had been two. There were two regulars in ridiculous shape that worked out in the back and the rest of us did our thing in the front.

Also make sure you gym involves olympic lifts and squats , deadlifts etc. I've seen some that use them very rarely... a waste of money.

I personally like the balance ball situps. Hands over the head, throwing the body. Great core workout.

you can get the same results doing full body intense training workouts on your own and you'll save a lot of money.

Yeah that's fine, but I meant the ones with the rings. When you do that exercise your hips are supposed to be "up" the whole time and body pretty rigid like with a pushup.

Well yes, but a lot of people won't do them which is where things like this come in.

If Justin thinks he'll either do something like this or not workout much then definitely he should do something like this. It's better than nothing.

true - i agree a coach can be a good motivator when you're not feeling it that day.

Probably shoot whoever said kipping pullups were a good idea.

Punch the guy in the red shirt for his ring pullups and balance ball situps.
