Very Impressed with our run game tonight! Great blocking, runners finding the holes, yards after contact, and following their blocks. Team speed is very good as well.

Rush game for Orrville was good...I'd believe 168 yds. And NW had 1 score on a long pass & a kick return...they had 1 drive where they ran the ball well. Other than that the Orr D held them in check.
Gutsy effort by the Riders. Plenty to work on but nothing glaring that scares me. Hopeful for RB Joel Zook who went down with a leg injury. He's a 2-way guy that we need. Heard there's not a break but he'll be evaluated for ligament damage on Monday.
What can you say? We just find a way to win...credit to the kids. Made plays on offense, defense & special teams.
On to week 2. Let's break in this turf!!

Zook better think about giving up football. His body is just not made for this sport. He has had an injury every year since Jr high that I can recall. Great athlete, but man, football just seems to find a way to take him out.
Here's hoping it's nothing serious!!

Any NW fans know what the deal was with the Indians coming out of the locker room 10 mins. before the game & just standing there?
Seemed like a waste of valuable time. Is it a nod to the band or something?

It was a nod to the female singing before the game. Hats off to the announcer referring to us as the "Red Raiders" and then Fox 8 Friday night touchdown doing the same! That one never gets old. Thats been going on for years!

The players coming out for the National Anthem is an awesome tradition at Northwest. Kudos to Vic and the Team Captains for keeping the tradition alive.
A big thank you to all the Veterans past and present that have put it on line so we may sit in our stadiums on Friday nights and enjoy one of the best things this country has to offer...High School Football!!!

I was just reviewing the line score and realized that all the scoring for both teams occurred in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. It looks weird seeing the bookend zeroes.

You're right...for all the action there was in the 4th, not a single point was scored.
Was neat to see that blocked punt. Big skull for Tyrone White on that one....and for Martavius (not Martessius as he was being called by the PA announcer) for scooping it up.
And what was with the flag on that play? Was there a little too much excitement on the Orrville sideline?

I think it was a sideline warning......One of the coaches was a little too far out on the field and the official ran into him as he was running down the sideline.
Not to mention the PA announcer kept calling us the Red Raiders....SMH, you think after all the times we've played them they could get it right!

Wasn't at the game, but I wonder who the coach was Old Rider.

I think the coach was Coach Haley. He was pumped on that blocked punt and I think he almost took out a Ref on accident. Great first game for the Riders! Plenty to work on but it is better to work on it with a win.
The thing that stood out to me was the teams heart. Orrville always plays with heart and Friday was no different. They had the will to win and NW did not. That is coaching, tradition, and hard work from the kids. Fun to watch.

Coach Haley got the first one and Coach Davault got the second. That rule is a joke, especially when the one called on Coach Haley occurred when the play was 35 yards away from our sideline after Ty White blocked the punt. Let the coaches and kids get excited.

Old Rider I agree. I happend to be watching the sideline as the punt was being returned for the TD and I love the excitment!
As for the NW players staying out for the National Anthem I like the tradition, but you guys need to get that timed out better. They stood in the endzone for over 15 minutes. That is a lot of wasted time and players just got loose.
As for Zook I hope he has a fast recovery and hope that today he finds out that there is no structural damage. As much as I want him to be back on the field for the team I want it for Mr. Zook more. The kid worked his butt off and is a good kid. I hope he is back out there soon for him.

I would not count Zook out just yet, he is a hard nose kid, and yea he has had some bad luck, but it’s not like its one area, like a knee, or ankle, let’s wait and see what the doctor says, I might have to eat my words, but my money is on Zook being back soon, the kid has a lot of drive.Mr. 300;1254468 wrote:Zook better think about giving up football. Rider Dad I hope you are right on Zook being on the field soon. Nobody should be questioning the kids drive. Anyone that gets any news on the injury please share with us.
