I think this was one of his best opportunities for another gold. His next best bet is the 100Fly (he has more speed, not as much endurance) then 200IM.

I think Phelps is starting to regret how much time he took off after Beijing. It's obvious his endurance just isn't what it used to be.

In the 2nd heat is Kathleen Hersey who looked amazing in the heats. She could possibly challenge for gold and has a solid shot at the podium.
