I get that, but my contention is that a death sentence for the football program today wouldn't really benefit the victims in any significant way. What will benefit those who suffered is getting to the bottom of the truth and seeing that those individuals directly responsible for what happened receive their due punishment. That is what I imagine the victims most desire. Jerry Sandusky got his. Others may get theirs pending what the courts find.

As I said, however, I could also understand if the NCAA were to also punish PSU by removing football for a certain length of time in order to set a message that this will never be tolerated again. I think it should leave issues of morality alone and just stick to enforcing rules violations, but this case is unprecedented and the NCAA may want to impose a new standard for this type of gross negligence.

I didn't think of anybody first or last I just listed reasons why the NCAA won't levy the DP troll. Anything else you want to spin here? It goes without saying who the god damned victims are! If somebody on a damn message board doesn't mention them first well it's out the window? State one of those reasons on my list that isn't legit??

Let me list a few more reasons why the NCAA won't:
1. Current athletes under football scholarships
2. Current administrators and coaches under contract
3. Uniform, apparel, concession deals
Just a few more that popped into my head. Again this is about will PSU get the DP don't spin it these are more reasons the NCAA won't level them!

gosh a ruddies what should guide our actions on this issue. What did you think of first! Why FIRST it is money for the athletic program the most important thing. then the coaches and the player, then alumni and students, and then of course how it effects the Big Ten, and the TV contracts. And who is the afterthought the victims who course will not want to suspend the football program. you know the football program that gave jerry sandusky the power to ruin their lives, the football program whose leader lead the effort to hide these crimes and allow them to continue, the football program that was enriched over the years of their suffering. I am sure they would never want that program shutdown.

Again you didn't dispute a single reason just questioned the way I listed them.

It is very easy just to sit back and say kill it, turn it off but I am telling you it ain't that easy for the NCAA. Don't think for one minute as well PSU wouldn't take to a legal battle w/NCAA that though they may end up losing could tie things up for years. This isn't 1986! You think they will fight it, really. That will just keep the issue front and center longer. Drag it on in the courts, right. cable news, hln, court tv penn state fights against child rape sanctions. by the time its done a psu diploma will be worth about $1.50.

100% they will fight it and I said they may lose and you are right it will severely diminish the degree. They will not just take their cash cow being killed without a challenge.

Don't forget PSU is paying for Curley and Schultz's legal costs correct? That tells me they will fight it!

if they were smart downplay sports, emphasize departments that play a positive role in children's lives, education, social work. make a name as a leader in those areas. if they were smart and they did not want psu diploma to be an embarassment of a resume.

PTI made a good point today.

Death Penalty for 1 or 2 years would allow for that Penn State to formally end and be reborn. I forget which one of the said it, but they new everything; all the way down to the uniforms. I know pretty much everyone is gone from the previous administration both college wise and AD wise, but it's still an interesting idea. I think Wilboun made the comment that it'd be difficult to to to Beaver Stadium next year and try to enjoy a tailgate/football game. He made it sound like the DP would almost help Penn State in the long run by putting this whole thing behind them in a gone but never forgotten sort of thing. Like I said, it was interesting to watch/listen to.

I don't really have an opinion either way on the matter though. There's really nobody left to punish here though that had involvement with the incident. The players on the roster now are the same ages as the victims in the case, so what do they have to do with it. On the other hand, it seems like this was a university wide cover up, and something has to be done.

If they do get the DP, would it be immediately and mess up this year's schedule? or Would they allow this season to happen and enforce the sanction at the conclusion of this season?

Agreed. The only way the NCAA should have any right to make a ruling and hand out the death penalty is if the PSU administrators facing charges are determined to have blatantly participated in a coverup. That hasn't been proven. It's only been speculated based on Mr. Freeh's incomplete information and the opinions he drew from it.

If a coverup really did happen and PSU's administrators are found guilty of such in court, I would think a complete lack of institutional control in the highest degree, as far as I understand it, would warrant the ultimate penalty for a university sports program. Death.
