Right-Handed (or switch hitting) bats that may be available before the trade deadline, what would you be willing to part with for these guys:
Name - Position - AVG/OBP/OPS/HR
Carlos Quentin - LF - .277/.416/.970/7 - Free Agent after 2012
Chase Headley - 3B - .272/.374/.794/8 - Free Agent after 2014
Edwin Encarnacion - 3B/1B/DH - .295/.379/.943/22 - Free Agent after 2012
Shane Victarino - CF/LF - .247/.313/.686/8 - Free Agent after 2012

none of those. its not worth giving up people for them to leave at the end of the season.Wooball;1219807 wrote:Right-Handed (or switch hitting) bats that may be available before the trade deadline, what would you be willing to part with for these guys:

Encarnacion would be great. I doubt youd give up anything in the future plans for him. Toronto asks for too much, they will be stuck with him.
Victorino no thanks. Need power.
Quentin is a bigger name, and I think would cost a little more. I wouldnt mind him for cheap, but injuries mean it better be real cheap.
Headley I have never liked. He goes through stretches where he hits well, but just lacks any kind of power. But, SD might be the reason. Cant figure it out. But, as a 3B, Id prefer Chiz. If Headley wasnt locked in till 2014, maybe.
Guy Id love to see us go after is Soriano. I dont think it would cost too much, and he has the ability to carry an offense for a couple weeks. He has Peralto syndrum, where he swings at AWFUL pitches and wont hit .300. But he can go on a tear with 6 HRs in 10 games. Plus, hes played in big, big moments.

I'll add Soriano's #s to compare to the others:
Alfonso Soriano - OF/DH - .266/.324/.802/15 - Signed through 2014 at $18 million per year - The more $$$ the Tribe would accept would lower the prospect(s) we'd have to send out.
I am not overly excited about Headley, but the argument is that if he got out of Petco his power #'s would increase. It would help, but I'm not sure to what extent. Can he play 1B? If so, it might be a plus that he is under control for 2 more years, as he would be relatively affordable.

May have already been posted but the Tribe scouts were at the Cubs game last night scouting RHP Matt Garza for a potential trade.

Garza doesnt excite me, but it does make us better. Garza does "seem" to step up in big games though, I will say that.BR1986FB;1219954 wrote:May have already been posted but the Tribe scouts were at the Cubs game last night scouting RHP Matt Garza for a potential trade.

I know we can always use good pitching, but IMO, offensive help is a priority. We need a couple more productive bats if we plan on making a run at the post season.

Tribe answer with 2 in the bottom of the inning... But leave it Hafner to kill a rally

Masterson not sharp? Following on phone, and he does have 5ks...but 4 runs and 3 walks. Ugh

The first pitch I saw of last night's game was the Hafner home run. The first (only) pitch I saw tonight was that Luke Scott home run.

that is about par for the course. seems like they keep the bigger hitters in the park. but the guys who hit 1-3 homeruns a year always go deep against the tribe.Crimson streak;1220142 wrote:Gives up a hr to guy that was hitless in his last 41 at bats awesome

Good thing the break is coming up because the Sox are starting to surge a bit with 4 in a row and 8 of 10.
Only 3 games out right now, but it would be nice to just get into the break already and re-charge the batteries for the second half without losing a bunch of ground right here at the end.
