No thank you playoffs.

I like things the way they are. No.....its not perfect, but no sport is. People bitch every year about the NCAA tournament and the bubble teams that didn't make it. The NFL regular season is boring and meaningless, wake me up when the playoffs start. NCAA basketball has a really boring regular season too. Duke-Carolina is great and all, but they play twice a year and we know they're both making the tournament anyways so what does it matter?

Imagine 2002 Ohio State fans. I am not an Ohio State fan but I remember everything about that 2002 season. Each game was like a playoff game, you knew the season hung in the balance. King Right 64 Y Shallow Swap would have still happened, but you would know that if Jenkins doesn't catch that pass from Krenzel, OSU could still end the season with 1 loss and make the playoffs. So maybe Musberger never utters the phrase "Holy Buckeye!" because a loss is not as big of a deal.

I've been to a bowl game before (2006 Fiesta Bowl) and loved everything about it. Wasn't thinking "Gee I hope the winner gets to go on to another round and play for the National Title!" It was perfect (even with an ND loss). OSU won that game and they were champions. Maybe not National Champs, but champions none the less. They got to celebrate and end their season with a win. Something that doesn't happen in a playoff format.

And everyone screams "playoffs!" yet no one can agree on how to do it. Do 4 teams get in? 8? 16? I have news for you: the conferences will not sign off on a playoff unless their champion is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. So 4 teams is out. 8? That only leaves 2 spots for at-large bids. TCU and Boise, come on down! Florida....sorry maybe next year! 16? Yeah right. If anyone argues that a 4 loss team should have an opportunity to win the national championship....they're not a true fan of COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Yes I'm sure I will get the arguments like "what about Team x from year x!?!" Well....sorry team x, life isn't fair. Neither is college football. But you went to a bowl game, ended your season with a victory, and can say you were undefeated. Maybe next time.

To all you Boise States, TCUs, Utahs, and Cincinnatis out there I say this: you knew this was possible. You KNOW you're not in one of the most respected conferences so you have to go the extra mile to be able say you have earned the right to be in the NC game. Scheduling Miami of Ohio, Virginia, and Southeast Missouri State in your out of conference games isn't helping and you know that. But that is the choice you make. If you want an easy win outside of your cupcake conference, know that it doesn't look good when you're bitching about not making the championship game.

College football ratings are going up every year. The SEC Championship game drew an 11.8 on the Nielson ratings. Thats UNREAL. Higher than most World Series games the past 5-7 years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So here we are, on the verge of Bowl season. 34 games, and 34 teams that will end the season with a victory and enjoy a vacation and gifts in more than likely an exotic location.

Try telling Florida, or TCU, or Boise State that they don't even make the top EIGHT. Then see how long that lasts. What you talk about is great in theory but no one actually thinks about it. It makes NO SENSE when you think about it. You'd still possibly have undefeated teams not making the playoffs.

Again, a great idea to think about but keep dreaming cuz it would never work.

What choice do the fans have? Its college football, its a great sport. Of course they are going to watch it.

Yeah avoid playing a tough mid major, skate through a propped up conference and then tell the mid-majors "you didn't play anybody, you don't deserve the chance to play" seems to be the current strategy for the BCS conference teams

People don't seem to understand that there is little parity between the toughness of conferences any more. Every team has three or four games in a given season that they have to get up for, then they sleep walk through the rest. TCU beat Utah, BYU, and Clemson. This year Texas had tough games with Tech, Oklahoma, Okie State, and Nebraska. Everyone else (i.e. Baylor, A&M, Kansas, etc.) are as bad as any of the given teams that you listed above.

Hardly as much of a difference as you'd want to make it out to be. Texas is getting in to the NC game based solely on name recognition.

we don't know who is one of the best teams in the country because there is no way of settling it on the field. It is a bunch of computers.

Do I know if Texas is better than TCU? No, they might be. Is Texas better than Cincy? Probably, but once again, I don't know and you don't know. That is why the system sucks.

At the end of the day, Florida lost. Its a lot easier to leave a team out of the NC hunt that has lost than one that hasn't. If Florida agreed to a playoff, then got embarrassed on the field by Alabama, they wouldn't have too much to complain about.

If there was a playoff I would watch every single playoff game. Whether I was a fan or not, I would watch. (given i watch every bowl game that I can anyway)

Ratings for the playoff games would be much higher than bowl games. The average viewer might not care about the Rose Bowl or the Sugar Bowl if their teams arent in them. But if my favorite team plays the winner the following week or might play them in two weeks you better believe I'm watching.

Who knows, because the powers that be don't want a playoff bc they want to keep all the money to themselves and don't really care about who the best team in the country is. Maybe Auburn was the best team in '04 afterall they were undefeated. Boise in '06, Hell Utah's been undefeated twice in the last 5 years and yet no National titles on their walls. Tulane went undefeated in 98,Marshall in 99.

Yes BCS is better than the previous system, but why not a playoff? the only answer is money.

Yeah the Big Ten is so grueling. Its so tough beating whoever is having the best year out of Wisconsin / Penn State / Iowa / Illinois / Michigan State (pick two if you want). :rolleyes:

Its not easy to join a conference. A lot of factors go in to joining a conference, namely location, size, and competitiveness in other sports. Boise and TCU aren't exactly known for anything else outside of football.

I agree, they do need a tougher schedule, but again good luck finding a BCS team to play them. And c'mon please don't try and tell me the Big 10 is grueling conference schedule, the big 10 is mostly garbage. The conference is bad. Ohio State has won it 5 yrs in a row. There's been years when they try to let somebody else win it and they refuse.

They lost to Purdue. Even Notre Dame beat Purdue.

And if you want to start a thread about the BCS conferences black balling Boise, be my guest, but it has no bearing on the fact that a playoff wouldn't work and this isn't the thread for it.
