That's the way to get some nice advertising. Everyone would like to see more members but not many are willing to help get those new members. That is a simple way to really get the word out about the OC. Sometimes it's easier to do, especially if there are coaches around here. I am a mod of a very localized forum and the membership and viewership has really dropped off. Unfortunately, no one cares and it has pretty much ruined a decent forum. I had suggested the same thing about getting some stuff at the local schools' sporting events and nothing has been done. The owner/operator of the forum even coaches at a high school and his high school has one of the lowest participants, possibly.
I think the increased moderation OR visible moderating is a good idea. I think the reducing of NSFW images in random topics is good. Although, having many scantily clad women around may be not such a good idea to have advertising on HS sports pamphlets.
I don't think that reducing the "religion" topics is a good idea. I am one that enjoys them. They can be derailed easily, BUT they are often very popular discussions. I don't think they should be moved to "politics" because they aren't political...if they are out of the "Serious Business" forum, then they should get their own forum. That way if you want to get into the religion discussions, you know where to find them.
I think that the increase in individual sports' representation would help the "general discussion" overall. If there's a way to tap into the sports chat, it'd be worthwhile. It will be hard, I believe. I think the discussion on Yappi, JJ, SEO Preps, RocketCorner, or whatever else seems pretty "dead" outside of the sports' seasons -- not much feedback in "general discussion" forums. But, with increased traffic in other forums the likelihood of increased traffic in other forums is more likely.
