Does ESPN get a cut from the in-stadium ads? I'm just wondering how much $ there is in the event with the relative lack of commercials.

Thats why they have the pregame show for 45 minutes...and PACK it with commercials. Same with halftime lol.

A lot of hate for CR7 on here...he's one of my favorite players in the world. Love watching him play.

He is an amazing talent, overshadowed by maybe the greatest we have ever seen.

I hate him because he plays for Madrid lol. But, I think a lot of hate comes from the way he acts when it doesnt go his way. He will often not celebrate with teammates if he isnt the goal scorer. He is a huge diver, though that has been cleaned up a ton over the last couple years, which earned a lot of respect for me.

But honestly, I think its that Messi is so humble, plays the right way, and is maybe the best teammate in sports for a guy who is a mega star. So when CR7 is brought up, its always with Messi. Messi is loved throughout the world because of his game and how he conducts himself. CR7 is not the polar opposite, but he is not nearly as likeable. Probably an unfair comparison, but thats what you get.

Better all around game IMO. Free kicks and in the air.

Messi is amazing and not too shabby with his head for a little guy, but I'm still taking Ronaldo.

BOO THIS MAN

Better all around game? You crazy bro.

In addition to everything Laley said:

Messi has a much better all around game. Ronaldo is better in the air, but messi outscores him, out assists him, scores as many free kick goals, has better balance, and actually beats far more people (especially without going to ground) than CR7 does. He's also 3 full years younger.

Messi > Ronaldo and its really not even as most people think.

+infinity.

Messi will go down as the greatest to ever play, imo. He is well on his way to like 8 POY awards. No one is close to him. Ronaldo is the closest, and had his best season ever...but it still might not be enough to win the POY, though Euros are helping him.

Ronaldo is a better header of the ball. That might be it.

Messi is better in a lot of categories, and the rest are 50-50.

Calm down folks, I'm not dissing your man. I just prefer Ronaldo's game. I'll need to see a vid of Messi hitting some FK bombs to say he's better at that.

I think he'll be known as the best ever even if he doesn't do shit for Argentina. I still thing he needs to, although the criticism he gets about it is unfair.

I'm taking Messi still..but Ronaldo isn't as far behind as some people make it seem. He's really fucking good (not that some of you are saying he's not..).

I know your not. I love Ronaldos game. I watch Madrid just for him. I just dont think he is Messi category. But I think about 5 players ever are. Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Zinadine and Di Stefano. NOTE, Ive only seen highlights of all by Zidane.

My point on the free kicks is that Messi scores as many on them as Ronaldo. He doesnt have the crazy technique and shit. Ronaldo is the master at that, but the results at the end are equal.

Here is a pretty good breakdown actually. Though I would have some of the points more spread out or have more categories.

Holy shit, I didn't know they both had 74. I didn't think Ronaldo would catch him.

He only had 64. I dont know why, but they are counting like all his goals this year. Not just Madrid goals.

Messi had 73 goals for Barcelona
CR7 had 64 for Madrid.

I like CR7. I think he is one hell of a player and will go down as one of the all time greats. But like Laley is saying, Messi has a chance to go down as the BEST EVER.

He is on pace to break the 1000 goals mark which VERY few players have ever done, and even less (not sure any) have ever done it playing the majority of their career in a top 4 league.

Messi is a magician with the ball, and a magician without the ball. Thats what I think really separates him from all other players...his runs off the ball. CR7 makes good runs, but if you watch messi during a game (just messi) hes in a whole different category of good.

I've seen them both play live twice (once was a darby) and Messi is just plain better. No slight on CR7 to be worse than a guy would could be the best ever.

I just wish Messi was on a European team lol. Obviosuly he wouldnt be Messi without the Argentine upbringing, and probably not in a Barca uniform if he was born into a wealthier country. But, the point remians, it sucks seeing him on the big International stage only once every four years.

Its just a treat to know we may see this guy play in FIVE World Cups. 18, 22, 26, 30, 34. If my math is correct. Even if not, its only a year off. So we may still he him at 35. He will probably get the obligatory invite at that point. He is starting to score more the National Team as well. Already 3 goals in WC Qualifying. He has 7 on the year. That is the most he has ever scored for Argentina in a year, and only had 4 goals total in 2010 Qualifying.

But enough about that. We have a big game today! Who does everyone have?

Im guessing we will get 100% for Germany, so lets predict score and scorers to make it more interesting.

Ill take Germany 3-0. Stays close for a half. But a late goal from Mario Gomez before the half means the Greeks have to chase the game a bit after the 60th minute. Germany scores 2 more. Muller and another one from Gomez.
