Italy still in pretty good shape with the tie here. Croatia will have to play Spain, who won't be able to rest, and Italy get Ireland on the third match day. I'd certainly favor them to advance over the Croatians or Irish.

Only way to advance would be to beat Ireland, correct?

That's correct (assuming the Spanish beat the Irish today). The Irish showed nothing in their opening game which is why I say I think Italy still have an easier path, particularly since Spain will be going full bore against the Croatians (they'll likely be tied with 4 points each).

Basically, if I had to bet, I'd say the group ends up as:

Spain 7 points
Italy 5 points
Croatia 4 points
Ireland 0 points

Edit: like_that covers another scenario below

No. Ireland/Spain could tie. Then Spain loses to croatia, while Italy/Ireland tie.

Then yes.

Ireland and Italy have played many times the past 3 years, it won't be easy for Italy to beat them. Im hoping for an Ireland/Spain tie.

If Ireland and Spain tie this shit goes crazy. Every team with a chance to finish first heading into the last match day.

This game will be an absolute shit kicking. Might be the biggest mismatch of the tournament.

Ireland conceded an early goal and has played decent since. I'd love to see them get an equalizer, but I'm not expecting it.

Ireland has been far too careless with the ball.

Spain is just clinical. You really wonder if they would have more titles if the Barca and Real players were able to put aside the hatred for the national sie before 2008. Right now, they are on one of the greatest 5 year professional sports runs of all time, in any country, in any sport. If they win Euros here, I may say it is the greatest.

And the Irish are the first teams out of the tournament. 4-0 Spain...wow.
