Trust me, ND doesn't need the Big East for their other sports programs to exist, the football program makes more than enough money to fund the schools other sports programs.

The fact is it does make a difference, otherwise they wouldn't be in a conference at all in any sports. Go tell all the other kids playing athletics that they now have nothing to play for, no conference title, no NCAA tournament berth and see how many top recruits you get in those sports. But at the same time I doubt the Big East commissioners will sit around and let ND continue to have the opportunity to hire their coaches away in light of the recent situation without at least some future assurances that it won't happen.

^^The Big East needs Notre Dame more than Notre Dame needs the Big East. Again, the only sports that really matter are football and basketball. The Big East is one move away from being in serious jeopardy as a football conference. They will lick Jack Swarbrick's balls twice a day for the rest of time just to have him consider joining the Big East, and you can take that to the bank (God I hate that saying!). Bottom line is Notre Dame and the Big East are just fine.

Wow... The big ten can't touch the Big East in basketball. Notre Dame generally puts out a solid basketball team.

Remember Penn State, who the experts said would go to the Rose Bowl every year when they joined. They've gone what twice in 17-18 years. Notre Dame would be an upper echelon team (top half) most years, but if they had to play Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa every year they would not win the Big Ten very often. Look how many times they lose to Purdue, Northwestern and Michigan State (not exactly big ten powerhouses.) As for Basketball, which conference is the best is different each season and I agree with you that this season the Big East at least early in the season is the best conference in the country, but that could change by tournement time.

you said whats wrong with indy ND too good to play there? i was asking a question on where it would be held and i thought indy would have been a great place to host the big ten title game.

as for basketball the big ten has 1 or 2 legit teams where the big east has 3-4 that could contend for a title

for football as of right now ND would be middle of the pack for now but give them a couple years and they would be in the top 4 for most years. and ill stand by that statement. Illinois? really? wisconson isnt that great and iowa is mediocre most years with a few decent years. as for pennstate i believe ND beat them a couple years ago under weis which is considered the worst decade of ND football

I say no, I don't think the NBC and big ten network would make this a smooth transaction and ND is in great shape where they are IMP. They have the easiest chance of getting into a BCS game as it is. No way do they want in the Big 10 IMO.

Patsies all year, huh? Do you ever think before you post? ND's schedule was the 31st ranked schedule in the country. Not the most difficult but clearly stronger than any Big Ten team. The 4 Big Ten teams ahead of Notre Dame in the Saragin rankings and their SOS are:

OSU 61
Iowa 51
Penn State 80
