I was out shopping with the wife yesterday evening. I saw a nice couple, early thirties with an estimated 9 year boy. Mom had a few tattoos (nicely done and quality work) and so did the dad no big deal. Then the boy walked passed me. He also had some tattoos on his arms, back of the neck and shoulder area. I would say that the young boy had 7-8 tattoos again never nice, great color and good graphics.</SPAN>

The question is at want age did you get your first tattoo?

I have no tattoos .</SPAN>....

Is this permanent art form something the parents should decide for their kid future?

Not sure this is parential wisdom ..

Should there be an age restriction for kids getting a tattoo?

I think 18 years old is a good starting age, adult reasoning should be in play at this age. </SPAN>

A 9 year old with tattoos is crazy. They were probably fake.

16 with parents permission. Then 18.

I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 25. I'll be getting my next one starting this summer.

I wasn't really able to get one until I was out of college anyway. My mom threatened to cut off helping out on tuition if I got one. It worked, and I'm glad for the rule because I probably would've got something that I would already regret.

Same here. My parents were against in until I was 18. I got my first one when I moved to college. I don't really "regret it", but in the future I will probably get it removed or covered...to get something bigger. :D

18 without parental approval. Parents sign off, it's fair game.

I got my first one when I was 18. I've seen a number of junior high/freshmen kids with tattoos during my coaching. Just baffles me.

I do not have a tattoo and as pnhasbeen said you already have to be 18 to get one unless you get parental approval.

I don't know, I'm still skeptical. That is very young age to be putting a kid through that kind of pain...some might say child abuse.

If they were real, that is incredibly stupid. The kid is going to grow a LOT, skin will stretch, and the tatts will look like shit.

Yes and yes.

And parents should no more decide that their kid should get a tattoo then they should decide anything else about the kid or force anything on them (politics, sexuality, religion, etc).

If the 9 year old kid really does have legit tattoos, that's messed up.

Remember Sideways Stories from Wayside School? If so, you&#8217;ll appreciate this tattoo. The owner, Alex, writes in:
I just got my very first tattoo and it&#8217;s totally geeky, just like me, ha ha.
So if you&#8217;ve read the book &#8220;Wayside School is Falling Down,&#8221; then you probably are familiar with the story of Calvin. His dad decides to let him get a tattoo and everyone in class gives him all these suggestions. He considers getting a leopard fighting a snake, but in the end he gets a potato just above his left ankle. Everyone thinks it&#8217;s stupid, but he knows he made the right choice, or at least he&#8217;s pretty sure.
And a pic of the happy tattooee and tattooer:

I am 27 and do not have any but may get one or two in the future.

I would never, ever sign for someone under 18. I wanted a tramp stamp when I was in HS...and yes, that's embarrassing. Thank god it never happened because I would obviously regret it now.

I still don't even know exactly what I want and where, which is why I haven't done it yet.

Been on the fence about getting both arms sleeved this Summer. I want to do it but I don't want to have to wear long sleeved shirts to work every day.

Yes when he 14 his older brother passed away and he wanted a "memorial" tattoo. I made him wait almost 2 years to make sure that was what he really wanted. The tattoo is on his upper arm which can be covered by a short sleeve shirt.

lol you serious Clark? Both arms covered in one summer? That's a hell of a lot of hours in the chair, money, and healing to happen in 3 months.
