My one ejection was in the same college wood bat league. The team we were playing always had bad blood with us as quite a few of our players played at Akron U, and theirs mostly played at Kent.

Our pitcher that day threw in the low 90s and their catcher hit an absolute bomb, at least 440 feet (hit the pitching mound of the field just over the left field fence). As he is running around 1st base he yells to our pitcher "Hey pitch, you lose something?".

Well, that doesn't fly with a college pitcher so the next guy got drilled in the back. Fight nearly breaks out then but it did not.

An inning or two later I am playing 3rd and their leadoff tries to stretch a double into a triple and our CF throws him out by 30 ft. I come up the line to him thinking he is going to turn around. He starts to slide so I lower the tag to about thigh level right as I see him bring his spikes up and he rakes right up my forearms.

I didn't feel anything at first and that was the 3rd out so I just start heading toward the dug out. Just then the pitcher points at my arms and I look down to see blood pouring down both arms pretty bad (I still have a couple scars from it). I looked at the ump and asked him if he was going to eject the runner, he said that he wasn't sure what happened.

I then said "well, I'm going to give you someone to eject" and I turned and threw the ball as hard as I could at the runner who had just got up off the ground, hitting him right in the sternum, knocked him down and knocked the wind out of him.

I then walked over to the dugout and took my ejection. To this day I am surprised that there was not a brawl.

Funny part is that at that time there was no mandatory suspension for an ejection (there was the next year) so I played the 2nd game of our double header (in the outfield away from possible altercations) while the other guy couldn't as he had a growing contusion on his chest.

I almost got beaned a couple times in the 2nd game and laughed those off, even taking one in the hip for a free base.

I've been ejected 12 times as a MLB head coach. I literally made Derek Jeter what he is today, a HOF.

You happen to remember if ya ever had Max McCleary as an ump? He had just one eye..the other was glass! HE was pretty good. There is a book about him too..he did alot of Independant league games as well.

Don't recognize the name but I remember having an ump with a glass eye. It was probably him.

He was a pretty funny guy actually, I caught a game he umped, had me laughing most of the game.

Good story , jmog. Thanks for sharing and the laugh. Baseball is a great game and most of us who played and love the sport have some pretty good memories and stories to tell.

This rule was not enforced a single time in any of the LL games I played in or have watched for that matter. Played LL from like 97-03 and around 500 games. I have a hard time believing some of you who say that this has always been enforced. Maybe it has been recently but not when I played.

damn, little league for 6 years...didnt think they had a window licking division.

Ehh I counted from 9-14. Not exactly sure what is considered little league and I'm pretty sure the rules probably aren't much different.

One of the reasons baseball has become such a pussy sport. No real contact allowed.

I'm sure tackling will be banned from football soon as well.

...I managed and umpired in LL for almost 10 years and the rule we played by was that if the runner failed to attempt a slide he was called out but NEVER ejected.

Now this was back at least 15 years ago and it's hard to believe a player would ever be ejected unless he made an attempt to hurt the other player.
