The inmates are running the asylum and it needs to stop. This place is getting almost unbearable to read because of a handful of people turning threads to shit. I know most of the information in this thread will only affect a few people but I'm just putting it out there so everyone knows what is up.

Starting now everyone has a clean slate. This includes the vast majority of members who have never caused trouble, received a warning or infraction, or have had a tempban. It also includes the small group of members that have been bombarded with warnings, infractions, bans, etc. From now on you get one warning. It will come in the form on a PM. After that you will be restricted to posting in just The Basement (you know, the forum created specifically to allow you to be assholes?) for a month. Once the month is up you can post elsewhere. The next time you get sent to The Basement it's permanent.

I tried curbing the name calling, insults, and trolling before but I take full responsibility in doing a half assed job of it. At this point I'm ready to just shut the site down if this doesn't work. We give a lot of freedom around here, freedom you don't get on the other Ohio based forums. All we ask is that you show a little respect to each other (outside of The Basement) so this place will continue to grow instead of stay stuck in the current rut it is in.

Oh, in b4 "nice thread, JJ."

Is it referencing a stricter enforcement of current rules? Or is there a new more strict set of rules?

For example Speedofsounds reported post of deydurkie basically calling SVF an idiot. I know, it's a trio of idiots. But in this instance I think Deydurkies remark is completely warranted. SVF was being a complete bitch.

I would say it's just enforcing the current rules as is, because they are basically not being enforced at all. I think the rules are good, we just aren't using them.

But, if you have suggestions, I am open to anything. Because I'm seriously getting sick of this place. I'm too old for this shit.

I think all of the mods are getting sick of it. I think the ones that did enforce (like myself) just got tired of taking endless shit from the people we enforced it against.

No reason for us to take abuse for doing something for free.

I don't think there should be a strict no criticism problem, but the problem was we'd infract or do a temporary ban and then the poster would be back in a week and just follow the mod around for the next few weeks being a royal pain in the ass. With the permanent basement (if tha tholds up) that should help correct that problem.

Also, I think we just need to make it clear that you can't just constantly harass a poster and expect it not to be trolling. Some people seem to think trolling only relates to sporting teams.

How about a harassment rule, then? I think that is a great idea. I don't mind people harassing me, but I understand you guys getting sick of it. You're volunteering for this shit. I don't want people to think they can't call any of us out for doing/saying something stupid, but to harp on it for the rest of time is unproductive.

Just put that attempts to completely derail a thread with aggressive trolling will be met with warnings and basement bans.

But it took me a while to type that up and I don't want to waste it.

Sleeper's post about religion in the abused kid thread is the perfect example of this.

I think we need to take it upon ourselves to enforce more aggressively than we have. Not necessarily be hardasses, but actually, you know, moderate.

It was pretty clear that most of us had checked out as of late (hell, I admitted in here that the full unbanning of sleeper was when I had stopped trying). It's just a matter of us all getting back on the wagon and agreeing to enforce somewhat uniformly.

Indeed. I take full responsibility. Once we're all on the same page things should clean up pretty quickly.

I agree, I was just trying to make sure what is expected is understood so it's a consensus /group effort like Justin has later siad.

I think the biggest problem right now is the group of idiots that just tries to derail everything with being retards.

Particularly with Sleeper = EVERYTHING turns into religion/OSU/whatever. The thread on OU's Palmer Fest = OSU is better. Shit like that. And he seems to be completely living on this site right now.

The trickier part will be how the random "be-a-asshole" moments of Durk, LikeThat, CoA, etc. have gotten guys like Skyhook to go out of control, trolling everything they're on. Turns into a huge Hatfield/McCoy clusterfuck where Skyhook's mad at Durk for being told to kill himself a dozen or three times. So he follows him around with "butt-shot" comments everywhere, which annoys the fuck out of me because it's lame-ass threadshitting.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the heated sports threads (ie: Cleveland football draft stuff). Fans of the team have disagreements. They get hostile and turn the thread into a trainwreck for a few hours. No biggie in my eyes, but it could be an issue when people start bitching that some threads aren't being modded the same even though, to me at least, there's a legit reason in that it's people on the same "side" having a hostile disagreement, as opposed to someone just being an asshole for the sake of doing so.

One other thing I'd have a question about is the lightweight passive-aggressive shit guys like vball4set (or whatever his name is) and ETB do all the time where they grammar nazi posts and just say little stupid things. Like in the NBA playoff thread, Wildcats starts it by saying to stay on topic; Skyhook makes a smartass post about how he should have waiting for the correct 1st round match-ups to post them; ETB follows with a "why are you the way you are" posts, which he then tried to repeat after the first one was removed. It's not the sort of hardcore shit which is hurting things here, but it is the sort of little annoyance than can turn into a big fucking one if someone takes the bait. And we have plenty of people here who ALWAYS take EVERY bait. Like, I can't believe that people who type and seem like intelligent human beings actually try to debate Sleeper on religion for page after page. Like yelling at a fucking brick wall.

He's not passive agressive, he is literally just a dipshit. Jokes go flying over his head ALL THE TIME. He thought the parody of Saban greyshirting a coach was real, and his IQ seems to be going downhill since.

Because of stupid people that don't understand jokes then get super pissy about it?

Because no matter what we try to do to clean up the board there will be some vocal idiots complaining about it.

Do you think it's a good idea to limit religious discussion to the basement?

I agree that there will always be someone who is complaining. But I think we all also agree that right now it is miserable and some house cleaning is in order... assuming posters don't curb their actions once this post goes up.

I think it would be ironic.

I still like the idea of Religion and Politics being it's own forum. Both are so hotly contested that if they are allowed in general discussion people will find a way to bring it up in every thread.

I want nothing to do with moderating a religion forum, nor do I really want it in Politics.

As soon as you post this the JJ shit is really going to start, the trolls we be out in mass.

What about a different approach? Not a poster be damned type of post but instead share with the community your vision of your site. What you expect this site to be and become and how to achieve that. Yes with rules and enforcement but through the approach of what the site is, can, and will be.
