This conversation about Haden is ridiculous. Failhook, go back to your Steelers thread... Haden is easily one of the best up and coming corners in the league. Anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or doesn't understand the game of football.

I know, it's Mel Kiper but he was pimping our offensive draft, big time. Below is a ranking (offense/defense) by a few rounds. Said Travis Benjamin could be the "steal of the draft."

Offensive:
Round 1 - Richardson
Round 2 - Fleener
Round 4 - Travis Benjamin

Defensive:
Round 1 - Ingram
Round 2 - David
Round 5 -
Josh Norman

Heard Solomon Wilcots on the radio this afternoon and he gave it a B+. Said Hughes should've been a 3rd, no less than a 4th, rounder. Said had the Browns landed Kendall Wright at 22, as anticipated, it would've been an "A" draft.

I think Benjamin was a great pick for where we got him. He's a burner, something this team desperately needs.

I mean really besides the Weeden pick, I think the Browns had a great draft. I just don't think Weeden was worth a 1st rounder.

The Browns had the 3rd most rush attempts against behind only St. Louis and Tampa.) but teams also didn't throw because the Browns pass defense is actually good. Again, this doesn't even factor in the fact that the defense was constantly on the field.

The number that sticks out to me is the scoring defense (you know the one that actually matters given that NFL scoring is decided by points instead of attempts or yards.) Browns gave up 19.2 ppg, good enough for 5th. Teams score through the air in this league and the Browns defense did a good job of preventing that.

The Browns gave up 19.2 ppg because they had one of the easiest schedules.

lol @ the righteous indignation. Calling a terrible franchise terrible is being realistic. They're 18-46 in the last 4 years. And you're all flipping a shit about people not being optimistic about a draft class that's opined by just about everyone as the worst in the division. It's funny that the same people who are so ridiculously upset about people not loving everything the Browns front office does are the ones who bitch about guys like Mangini and Dolan every chance they get.

Say something bad about H&H - "Fucking QQers", "You guys will bitch about everything"

Say something bad about Dolan or Mangini - "Yeah they fucking suck" "They screwed us so bad!" "Fuck you Mangina!" "Why can't we get a real owner?" "lol +1 man! Reps!"

Either stop bitching or stop telling other people not to bitch.
BR1986FB;1158534 wrote:Hey, I understand. I've suffered as long as anybody. H&H were dealt a shitty hand by Mangini and are now digging out of it (shit the bed on THREE 2nd rounders).
Here are some of Heckert's 2nd and 3rd rounders since he became the Eagles GM, from 2007-2011:

Kevin Kolb, Victor Abiamiri, Tony Hunt (out of NFL), Trevor Laws, Bryan Smith (out of NFL), Montario Hardesty, Colt McCoy, Shawn Lauvao. He's shit the bed plenty. But we can't question him because he also took DeSean Jackson, Shady McCoy, and Jabaal Sheard?

I'm sorry, that doesn't fly. My money is on John Hughes joining that first list, not the second one.

Also, if anyone doesn't think Joe Haden was a good pick, they're dumb. The end.

And skyhook flings some more shit to the wall....does it stick? Survey says: (buzz)...

Oh, and it looks like he lives up to the failhook name once again. The Browns' 2011 opponents combined record was 136-120, good for 6th most difficult in the NFL by win percentage. Now can you please leave the Browns discussion for the adults please?

Actually it was more middle of the pack this year (based on record). 50% of their schedule was against playoff teams, and a few other teams were in the playoff hunt (titans 9-7, Raiders 8-8, and Cardinals 8-8). The only reason their SOS was middle of the pack, was because of teams like the Colts, Rams, Jags and Dolphins bringing the SOS record down. Keep on failing though.

6 of those 8 games were in their own division and they lost all 6 games. Keep on failing.

I like how you ignored your wrong stat you posted. Browns had an easy non Division schedule and went 0-6 in their division.

The Browns also have one of the best divisions in football. Did they suck last year? Heck yes! That will happen when your RB decides he wants to be in the CIA and you have a QB that can't hit a WR past 15 yards. However, any team would have a very hard time sweeping our division, because aside from the Browns, the other three teams are playoff caliber.

As for the draft, I refer to the previous sentence. When you are not a rebuilding team, you have a lot more freedom to draft for value (BPA) as opposed to drafting for "needs-based value". Playoff caliber teams are generally desirable destinations. Thus, free agents are more willing to sign there and players are more willing to STAY. This creates fewer NEEDS and allows the team to upgrade positions as opposed to filling holes through the draft. Again, I admit wholeheartedly that the Browns were awful last year, and basically have been since they returned, but based on their position, they had a pretty solid draft.

Yeah, we sucked because of Peyton Hillis and Colt McCoy

Not solely, but find me a team that can win without their starting runningback and an inept quarterback? That is the point I was trying to make.

And you missed the point I was making. There were about 4 other "things" i'd put the blame "more" on than McCoy and Hillis.

Coaching, WR's, just to name 2.

Umm, no shit dumbass. Does it change the fact that they played 6 games against playoff teams? Nope. Also, nobody said anything about winning. Nice fail again.

Can't wait for your next desperate spin fail attempt. /sarcasm

On the pluto podcast today, he pwned Hillis. Hillis practiced all week with strep, then on game day can't play. The coaches were surprised according to Grossi. Also said hillis had 4 broken tackles all season, and something around 40 the season before. Its funny how more and more is coming out about Hillis. More I hear, the more I'm glad he's in KC and we have Richardson.

WRs will still probably be an issue this season. Browns just cant seem to get that position right. I'm certainly not banking on Carlton Mitchell to all of a sudden figure it out and see the field (or for Patty Boy to get his head out of ass for that matter when calling games).

And what does that have to do with how good the defense played again?

If we had anything resembling a competent offense last year, we win a few more games.

Hell, we don't shit the bed on that AJ Green hail mary, and Wallace doesn't fuck us against the Ravens we win 2 more.

Shurmur had some blunders but I'm also of the belief that it's about execution, not the plays being called. If all players execute properly the plays will work. For the most part this team just had some shitty, stupid players on it. Both the player execution AND Shurmur's in game performance need to improve but I put it more on the players than the coaching.
