I don't really work standard hours, though I'm generally here during business hours and am always on-call. On a typical day, I'm in the office around 8.30a, and if I work through lunch and eat at my desk, I leave here around 6.30p. I play with my son until he goes to bed, and then work an hour or two from home in the evening. I work a few hours on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons probably twice a month, but I try to do it while son/wife are napping. Depending on how busy things are, I typically work 55-65 hours/week. The bigger thing is that I don't really get vacation--60hrs/week isn't bad, but when it's never-ending (no vacation in my first four years here, unlikely to take one soon), it starts to wear you down after awhile.

Kidding. Working that much and not having vacation is bunk. I work those 50-60 hour weeks, but I also get ~4 weeks of vacation.

BTW, was up in Milwaukee last weekend visiting (and getting 5 pounds of sausage from the Usinger's seconds table, and gorging myself at Kopp's...). If you like art and haven't been to the new outsider art exhibition at the museum I'd recommend it. Some odd stuff for sure, but really interesting.

Major options are (1) switch over to a gov't job (I've twice been approached about and declined to pursue political appointments--politics are too volatile right now in WI to take the risk); (2) go in-house at a company (more like 40-45 hrs/wk with real vacation, but lower salary and lower salary options, so no opportunities to make millions); or (3) go be a high school football coach, which is what I really want to do. Student loans are almost gone, so we'll see . . .

I work M-F 8-5. Work weekends at a tree farm if I feel like it. If not I can skip it. I used to work 10's where I am now when I worked in the factory (2:30-1am.) Loved the money and the work, hated not having a life. I'm in the office now as an accountant, and can't complain about a decent schedule. They're going to pay for my schooling so I'll call it a win.
