The co-pilot convinced him to use the restroom then locked the door. An off duty pilot then assisted in flying the plane while passengers restrained the erratic pilot.

Okay... so my next question is... why did the co-pilot have to convince him to use the restroom to lock the door (i.e., why did the co-pilot want to lock him out?)? Did the captain make an off-handed comment to the co-pilot that he was going to take the plane down or something?!

From what I saw, he lost it in the cabin and then continued his rants about terrorism and the plan going down to the passengers. Though, no one likely knows what he said in the cabin but it was enough to make the copilot want him out.

I know there's going to be lots of "cool story bro" posts but...

The co-pilot is my cousin. Haven't been able to talk to him yet but from what he told my aunt and his wife, the pilot was saying a bunch of crazy shit in the cockpit and started to push a lot of buttons and switches. My cousin was able to convince him to take a break and go to the restroom to freshen up. It was when the pilot was gone that he locked the door, changed the combination to the lock and talked over the PA to have the passengers restrain the pilot (who was going nuts up and down the aisle by now) while he made an emergency landing. They were lucky the plane was full of big, burly security guards who were on their way to a convention to Vegas.

We're really proud of him for taking the actions he did. Who knows what may have happened if he couldn't have gotten that pilot out of the cockpit.

Indeed, your cousin is a hero. Many grateful people feel the same, I'm sure.
