My wife just called me at work, said I got a jury duty summons in the mail. She didn't open it but the date on the outside was April 16th. How hard is it to get out of jury duty when me being out of the office would be detrimental to our company? We only have 3 employees, I'm the only one that does development, and we are busy as shit right now.

I've been summoned once and got out of it because I said I couldn't miss class.

Make sure he writes that he understands what a great civic duty that it is and add a little quip about the munchkin away on Maternity leave , making it a huge burden on your business.

Do what I did, I wrote a letter and said that I do not believe I should be forced serve in jury duty. I also said that whoever the defendant is for this case they are already guilty if I would be there juror. I basicically wanted to let them now that my decision would be guilty no matter what, that's what relieved me of duty.

Careful with that, most judges get those letters and have you sit in the back and watch the proceedings.

Last time I was summoned for jury duty I got out of it because I was supposed to testify in a "more serious" (murder) case. Never ended up having to testify, and jury duty never happened. Good luck.

Just tell them you run Ohio Chatter. When they view the site they'll decide they wouldn't want you for Jury Duty. That in itself should be enough.

That is interesting about saying stuff to get out of jury duty and the judges are now getting wise and making people sit in the back. That's a good way to stop that.

They are pretty understanding of small businesses. As someone said, have the owner write a letter. Outline what you do that can't be done by others. If you have a specialized degree, training, etc that nobody has be sure to include that.
