Yeah every school is ranked in the top ten by Forbes. I knew you wouldn't be smart enough to get that though.

Any group that exist for the sole purpose of promoting or excluding one race over another should not exist.

White excluding black or black excluding white is racism....period.

Great. Forbes is just one of the trillions of magazines on the planet. College rankings are bullshit and are built for minds incapable of thinking rationally for themselves.

It is because they are both true. It's not like Forbes where the opinions are bought and sold on the open market, its a fact that I did graduate from Ohio State and I do own a piece of a McDonalds franchise. Hate on!

This thread began by Sleeper taking it as given that AA is immoral and unjust and implicitly racist. This may or may not be a true political opinion to some of you, but it doesn’t qualify as a racist one. Even if the injustice of AA isn’t obvious to most of you, the injustice of automatically branding opposition to AA as racist should be.

Come, think for a moment. You may think AA was instituted to redress some wrongs. But college admission, or job acceptance, is a zero-sum game. When an individual is favored precisely because of his skin color or native language, then someone else suffers an injustice by being passed over because of his/her skin color. This is also racism.

You ought not to have to pay for the sins of your ancestors (or the sins of someone else’s ancestors, if yours were not slaveholders). In fact, most “whites” (can I use quotation marks here?) are probably not the descendants of slaveholders. It’s more likely to say that more “whites” are themselves descendants of slaves than of slaveholders. (Remember that in ancient warfare, the losers often became slaves. The Romans routinely enslaved Britons, and the Franks routinely enslaved Saxons. Think about the origin of the word “Slavs”: They were enslaved peoples east of the Elbe. Think of the Christian slaves in Muslim lands throughout the last 1500 years. Think of the Jews in Egypt. Think of the slaves throughout Asian history.) Why are the Blacks, then, or the “Hispanics” (a political term) and others favored with AA?

Or, if you would admit there is no rationale for AA other than the practical one of artificially raising up a minority to some imagined economic parity, then answer this question: At what point will AA be said to have done its job? The premise that AA is temporarily justified for minority high school seniors applying to college is based on the assumption that they didn’t have the advantages of the majority applicants. The premise includes the assumption that if they had the advantages, if they had not been “disadvantaged” (Orwellian), they would be able to compete with majority students without tipping the scales in their favor. So why after four years in college is AA rolled out again, when they apply to grad school? Weren’t they supposed to have had the right stuff for college, except for their disadvantages? Weren’t they supposed to achieve intellectual parity in 4 years? Wasn’t that the point of the original skewing of test scores, the inflation of grades, the ignoring of academic shortcomings?

But alas, AA continues on to the grave: professional schools, jobs, promotions…” Don’t you guys see that this endless system automatically invalidates any claim it might have to being just? It seems that AA is never able to bring its beneficiaries to a place--in 4 years, or 8 years, or 12 years-- where they can compete on a level that doesn’t take into consideration the color of their skin or the language their mother taught them.

When is AA going to stop? When is it going to stop? When will the imagined wrongs finally be redressed? A while back, Sandy O’Connor said 25 years, but the complete randomness of her answer ought to say something about the rationale, i.e., the randomness of the thinking, that went into the program in the first place.

Chew on that, kids. Keep up the good work, Sleeper.

sleeper;1128277 wrote:This is a thread to discuss strategies for eliminating racism.

My first idea is to stop making race the reason someone gets or doesn't get something. Once we stop referring to people as black/white/cuban/latino/hispanic/puerto rican/zimbabwe/Canada and realize that people are just people we won't have to deal with the idea of racism ever again.

/thread

Thoughts?
You seem so genuine at this point almost believable.
sleeper;1128284 wrote:My second idea is to stop using racism as a weapon by calling people you disagree with racists.
You're still doing good so far.

I happen to agree with this point.
sleeper;1128314 wrote:Right, its better to continue it. Oh noes, a minority didn't get a job, RACISM. Oh noes, a black person was arrested for breaking the law, RACISM. Oh noes, a minority had a 1.1 GPA in high school and didn't get accepted to Harvard, RACISM. Oh noes, someone that was white got shot by a black man, and the black man was arrested, RACISM.

It's a joke, and a fraud of intellectually rationality.
Now your true colors are coming out you must have been busting at the seams.

The response to The Hunger Games casting has everything to do with AA. Or is it just this racism thing that black people complain about?

well the charachter they were most upset about RUE...was clearly described in the book as being dark skinned so that was a reading comprehension fail on their part. the part played by lenny kravitz that they were also upset about did not mention his race in the book.

College rankings are BS. Ohio State doesn't pay money to magazines to get their rating higher, like all the schools above them.

That isn't me. I welcome Eurus to the forums however. He/She seems like a person dedicated to intellectual integrity and I can appreciate the difficulty on trying to go against the ignorance this country demonstrates at every turn.
