When Bush was elected, his children were not living at home anymore and they were at the age where family vacations didn't occur as often. Obama's children are still young, so they go on vacation more often as a family than Bush and other presidents have in the past I'm sure.

I know that the president isn't on vacation with his daughter, but it's not a big deal that his daughter is on vacation. If he wasn't the president, I'm sure his daughter would still be on this vacation, she just wouldn't have a Secret Service detail with her because she then wouldn't be the president's daughter and not nearly a big of a target. The Obama's are well-off and I don't find this any different than any other well-off family in the US.
Bush's "vacations" were primarily trips to the family ranch in Texas, complete with an office. There were some instances where he and Laura did travel abroad and whatnot, but the Bush's weren't hittin gup lavish resort communities and bringing all their friends.

I addressed this in the quoted post, but perhaps I wasn't clear. It seems to me that the Obamas "lavish" vacations are usually family vacations. Just from my personal experience, when I was younger the most lavish vacations my parents went on were with the family. When they became empty nesters they didn't go on as lavish vacations. Obama is still raising his family and they go on more "lavish" vacations compared to other presidents that had no children living at home.

Also, the Bush's, Kennedy's, etc. had family retreat/resorts of their own to go to. Bush's ranch and the Kennedy's Cape Cod compound were vacation destinations in and of themselves. As far as I know the Obama's don't have anything like that.

No president is "in touch" with average everyday Americans.

This first family has repeatedly lived a lifestyle way above and beyond what most presidents have, and certain way above what most Americans have, and yet they claim to represent those who are the "have nots". It would be hysterically funny if it weren't so pathetic.

Oh and those Wall St. pigs overwhelmingly support their fellow swine who occupies the Oval Office.
Show me the proof. They havent spent more money on vacations and what not anymore than any president . I want my president and his family to have as much R&R as possible especially the pres. This is petty stuff . Besides this president is for the common and poor folk a hell of alot more than your country clubbing secret society presidents which we have had up till this president.

How is a 13 year old going on a resort vacation with her friends from Sidwell a "family vacation"? The Obama's most certainly have a family retreat - HAWAII! THe state he's supposed to be from.

For the the third time, I don't think it's a huge deal, but its still a terrible decision. Few 13 year olds get to go to a resort for Spring Break without their parents. Few 22 year olds do.

Hmmm....imagine that. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/white-house-admits-to-asking-news-agencies-to-pull-malia-obama-vacation-story/
The White House has admitted to telling news agencies to pull stories on Malia Obama visiting Mexico for spring break, Politico reports.
If the WH tells the press to pull news stories about the Obama girls, is this a violation of Constitutional rights? What say you OC?

Asking them: no.

Demanding they do, and if they don't comply they could face retribution: Constitutionally ok, but jerk behavior (par for the course for this "transparent" presidency).

Mandating they do: yes

I'm all for them taking vacations...I think they deserve a long vacation....I think we should send them one big LOOOONG one.

Let's book it in November, and send them on it in late January!

It won't happen because Republicans can't pick a candidate from the group of losers they've narrowed it down to.

As opposed to the loser currently in office?

What's his campaign slogan going to be? "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know?"

Perhaps he's the devil we know, but he's an incompetent (and clueless) devil that will push our debt into well over the US$20T mark by '16, effectively. Do you even understand what that means for current and future taxpayers?

I'm not making a judgement of who's better, I'm telling you Obama will win reelection. Largely because the Republican field is A.) so horrendous and B.) can't produce a front runner

If Obama is as bad as Republicans believe him to be, it should be a big wake up regarding their own party's strategy when he manages to win reelection

If Obama is as bad as he's been the past three years, it should be every Americans wake (or did you mean wake up?) if he's in for another 4 plus the campaigning year. Do you really think America can handle a US$20T+ debt? We won't be able to borrow, we'll have to inflate our way out of the mess.

I never said they were currently on a family vacation did I? I was commenting in general to another poster that stated the Obamas go on a lot of vacations. Try to keep up.

Also, few 22 year olds go to resorts without their parents? What planet are you from? You ever heard of Spring Break?

To a resort like this? No. It doesn't happen. I've been to a few resorts like "this." The average college student doesn't go there, I don't care how wealthy they are.

Trailer park mentality.

I don't have a problem with the 2nd scenario. Ever since taking office they have told the media to leave the girls alone unless they were with Obama and Michelle. They have told the media to remove pictures of the girls in the past. To be fair, they are young teens.

Fair enough, then Obama needs to stop mentioning them. No crap with his healthcare bill and the contraceptive issue. If Obama wants them out of the picture, he needs to stop putting them in the picture.

Let's not forget David Duke who was a Grand Wizard in the KKK and also a member of Louisianna's House of Representatives but it makes it ok because he is................Republican.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Duke

It's partisan politics, like what you subscribe to, that has ruined this country. Don't vote for who you believe will do the best job, vote for who your party tells you to. Sheeple.

I guess I meant the federal level. Trent Lott gets run out of D.C. because of a comment he made, but Byrd, the KKK wizard, gets a lifetime achievement award for public service.

Media hypocrisy at its finest.

Carry on.

How the hell did this turn into a Byrd was a KKK guy? Your retoric and hatred do not even let you see that I was making a joke. albeit racist and politically slanted.

Your douchbaggery is only dwarfed by your inability to say anything that would give any credit or respect to the POTUS.

You and Belly should buy an all white island and elect yourselves kings of a government without taxes ( and work for free and have no roads)

Yes, I obviously meant wake up.

And again, I'm not passing a judgement on who is/would be better. But if it's as obvious as you seem to believe, there really is no excuse for the relatively easy path to reelection Obama is going to have.

The Republicans can't field a good candidate, and of the group of losers they DO have, they can't even manage to pick one. It's pathetic to watch, and one of the major reasons they're going to be two time losers to Obama.
