Yeah, the "baby stumps" is $1300. I just looked them up, as I am actually looking for a smoker, but my price range is <$500

The best bang for your buck in that price range is the Weber smokey mountain. I have a 22.5 and I can cook for 13 to 15 hours with one load of coals depending on weather.

and 18.5" is $299 on Amazon with free shipping. Could I do most anything on an 18.5?

What about propane smokers? Are they shit?

You can, just less. A rack of ribs will have to be cut in half or rolled where you can fit several on at once. A little small for me but you can make any piece of meat you throw on there taste like you cooked it on a $5,000 cooker.

Not a big fan of propane cookers, but they do work, just don't get the flavor IMO.
